The killing of nine people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston Wednesday night has reignited the conversation about access to guns in the US, drawing the predictable refrain that this wouldn't have happened had the people at the Bible study been armed. A board member of the National Rifle Association went so far as to blame one of the victims for the shooting because of his political position on concealed-carry laws. So when President Obama talked about Charleston and how easy it was for someone like 21-year-old Dylann Roof to get a gun, the critics pushed back.

One of them was former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who told Newsmax that the massacre, which he called an "accident," might have had more to do with drugs than with guns.

But if the DRUGS had guns, then they would have been able to shoot the gunman before he even went to the church.

From what I understand, the guy was some sort of nut job. Attacking black people...what a racist cunt...if that's what really happened.

the person who did this didn't do it because of drugs he was a mentally disturbed racist no mark looking to make a name for himself just wait till he is in a place like emerald city or gen pop his arse will get screwed by both sides

more than likely thought they will keep him in isolation for this very reason though blacks and white supremacists will hate this little no mark

Sounds like a racist ass hole. Not sure how they could blame drugs for this but as long as gun rights aren't effected.....

Funny how this "mental illness" disproportionately affecting white men seems to perfectly align with and replicate systems of institutional oppression that have existed throughout American history and continue to the current day.

Anyone know what the name of this "mental illness" is?

^^"Violent marijuana addict".
Fuck off fox news, you demagogue lowest-common-denominator motherfuckers.

Never let a tragedy go to waste. This is not guns fault and it is not the fault of the confederate flag.

How could anything be a guns fault? Guns don't make decisions, you can't assign blame to an inanimate object.

Regardless, the odds are that this hateful little rake could not have killed anyone if he did not have access to firearms, let alone 9 fucking people.

Like Obama said the other day, Americans need to realise this bullshit just doesn't happen a fraction as much in the rest of the developed world. Drive your head in the sand if you like, but the availability of firearms in the US is a HUGE factor in this equation.

thoughts?

related? concidence perhaps?

and in the event that a military/police training exercise was to occur during the time and location of the dates listed on FLETCs website, why have we not heard a thing in the media about it in the same regard many recent "training exercises" (such as the publically unannounced exercise that occurred in flint, MI) have been broadcast and made headlines after startling residents/creating civil unrest?
