Re: SPAM
In NE Events, they already adressed this issue with this
thread encouraging the use of ISP notification to kill spammers. BL Admins would rather people handle the problem by blocking/ignoring such emails rather than asking the admins to track down offenders and try to do something about it. I will note in the past, however, we have had members suspended for using BL profiles to generate SPAMming lists.
In the Support forum, they already have this
thread regarding the use of PMs to SPAM. Though no admins have weighed in - if the PM system is used for SPAMming then I'm sure the admins will see fit to ban/suspend an account if necessary. Then again, how hard is it to 'ignore' someone?
The more people that complain about a member using BL for SPAM purposes, the more inclined the admins are to do something to that account to punish the offender. Such complaints should be raised in the Support forum, not the events forum. I can understand the thought behind BA raising the issue in this thread, as most people hit with it would be reading this thread (where addy's are probably collected anyways) and would be able to input on the issue - but it is not a MW issue, it is a BL/personal issue. Probably a better approach may have been to put a thread in
Support, and reply in here with a link to that thread so the discussion could be done in the proper place. Then again, when I get pissed off about SPAM, I rarely take the time to cool off and think of the best way to approach it - I just wanna kill someone, but that's just me.
Personally, I hate SPAM. I'd bitchslap anyone that put me on their list (fucking BOO event in NE, grrrr). I might even attend an event just to do said bitchslapping, then leave. I have no problem with a promoter/venue/member creating a mailing list and providing a link in their threads/sigs so people can sign
themselves up for such emails, but to use BL profiles to collect addys and create such a list does go against guidelines (both site and forum) - therefore I'd do anything within my power to punish offenders and prevent this from occuring in the future. As it is, our hands are tied for the most part (as a mod). Again, complaints should be put in the Support forum. Active mods check there, and would be aware of what's happening; admins do check there and can advise on how they would handle it and what they'll do about it if anything.
===================
We now return you to your regularly scheduled event thread and ask that the SPAM issue not be continued here, but instead in the
Support forum.
