restless leg syndrome due to heroin wds

I can attest to the nightmare of RLS. Every time I've been stupid enough to put myself through w/d I've had RLS in both my legs and arms, which nothing will alleviate except more drugs. Last time, it caused my whole body to spasm as if I were receiving electric shocks. This lasted about 72 hrs. with no sleep or reprieve of any kind. After it was over, my muscles were very sore for a few days from all the jerking. That horrific episode taught me though, and I haven't allowed myself to blow through my meds early ever again. Here's how I see it now: better to have to wait a few extra hours till I can have my next day's meds than to suck them all up and have to wait a couple of weeks with nothing and go through hell. It doesn't pay to be a joneser! And truly, my heart goes out to those folks who suffer from this malady through no fault of their own. What a horrible problem to live with. I sure hope there will someday be a decent med to cure this. Mirapex was useless in my experience.

I just need to stress the importance of some basic prescriptions during withdrawal. It literally can be the difference between making it through and falling off the wagon....it makes it so much easier if you can just be honest to a doctor and tell him/her what is going on (say a doc got you addicted to analgesics and you want to stop them). In my opinion clonodine and gabapentin together completely eliminate RLS (lyrica can be used in place of gabapentin but is much stronger, harder to get prescribed, and very expensive W/O insurance. If your lucky like me and have insurance I literally paid under 10 dollars for scripts to clonidine, gabapentin, chlordiazepoxide, ibuprofen, and promethazine...I was coming off 4mg of subs and slept every night like a baby. Best decision of my life.

still clean,it's great looking back over these old threads, the only RLS i get now,is when i have the flue.
And it brings me right back to heroin withdrawal.....ffs!

Lyrica is amazing for RLS syndrome and opiate WD in general. Benzo WD to a lesser degree. But it also carries its own risk of dependence and withdrawal.
