Awesome, awesome movie. I unfortunately saw it when I was in a real down period of my life, so naturally felt like slitting my wrists after seeing it. But I thought the story was great and the performances outstanding.

jeez this thread is still going? I've never seen such an average movie get bumped for so many years. Duh this bluelight what else should I expect...

You came in here to say that?

A thread doesn't have to be entirely favourable or supportive of a movie, but at least provide some sort of reasoning for your opinion, otherwise, it's like reading a list of people saying "movie is good" or "movie is bad".

A little while ago I attended a screening of Requiem with the director (Darren Aronofsky), and he sat down after the film and talked with everyone...
In his own words the film is primarily about the idea of addicition, and the destruction that surrounds it. Personally, I asked him if he had ever actually done drugs, turns out, he's never done a single one, not even a hit out of a joint...
Which would explain why Requiem is absolute fucking tripe, hiding behind a flashy rock video exterior, it's cineamatogrophy is beyond par (For that thank Matthew Libatique, the real talent behind the film).
Basically it's a 2 hr anti-drug commercial designed to appeal to the easily distracted MTV generation. Put in some cool quick cut scenes, trendy editing, a hip techno soundtrack, a nice moralistic message and your done...
It really fucking bothers me that a film that portrays the drug world in such a false and hyper-exaggerated sense, and that is so factually flawed in regards to drug use, actually finds support here on Bluelight, a board designed to educate people about drugs, and dispell drug myths...
I fucking hate this film...
Pi was cool though.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Cheers, and fuck this movie. :)

it's just stereotypical for people on a drug board to shit their pants over a movie about drugs. Drugs isn't a lifestyle, it's something to do. I enjoy the movie.. but i dunno.. there's only so many years a bunch of drug users can swear by this movie's awesomeness and i begin to associate their obnoxious predictability with the movie itself.

It's like seeing people in FUBU shirts and asking them what kind of music they like.

Hah, well said. But as for drugs being a lifestyle...
Hmm. I think its a certain lifestyle that doesnt necessarily revolve around drugs...but more of a need to push EVERYTHING to the complete extreme; living at full speed(which is why i dont like this damn movie, their doing it wrong dammit!). Idk, its hard to explain, but i have a feeling that alot of you will know what i mean. :)

Umm...so there's not supposed to be a downside to drugs just because you do/like them?
Of course we know theres a downside. But watching this movie just gives me a feeling of "No shit. Heroin is addictive, dumbass. Fuck your arm."

It's like seeing people in FUBU shirts and gold teeth and asking them what kind of music they like.

You're disregarding collectively the opinions of a bunch of individuals on the basis of a shared interest.

An interest that you assume is life consuming for the majority of those that have those opinions?

Sure, there's more to life than drugs... There's more to life than internet forums, more to life than watching movies, more to life than talking about them, more to life than being annoyed that people enjoy things that you've started to tire of.

What's next, shall I enter Other Drugs and tell them that there's more to life than taking drugs? This is a drug related website, ya know.

First time I watched this movie I went "holy shit!"

I don't think it provides any unseen commentary (keep in mind the book was written in the 70s, which yall should read). Nor do I think the plot development is spectacular or any means. But if there's one thing Aronofsky can do, it's the "holy shit" factor. And I think that's the most important part of this movie.

Also, just to quibble with a few of the OP's comments (forgive me for not reading 9 pages of posts if these have been written before):

"Moving fridge- Sara's spiraling emotional and physical health." That's pretty thin, don't you think? It's certainly a tangible and cinematogrophically expedient manifestation to show her addiction. But I don't see anything particularly symbolic about it.
Ty & Harry going to Florida- I think that's just desparation, I don't see anything more than that
1 month- I think the whole thing takes MUCH longer than one month. This is particularly stressed in the book, where the author makes a great point of how satingly warm it is during the summer, and how miserably cold it is during the winter. The symbolism of the the seasons is obvious enough ("Fall" is quite literal), but I don't think the author actually means the seasons went from summer to dead winter in one month.

So im watching this for the first time as we speak is it gonna be good as everyone says or what?

DD summed up how I felt about this movie. It's quite predictable to get on Bluelight and see all the teens orgasm over this movie. I think hearing it over and over about how amazing this film is has made me actually despise this movie.

I realize this is an old ass thread but people still talk about this movie to me all the time it seems like. Anyway, Requiem for a dream...for the record I like the book, but the film is a great work of art depicting the downfall of addiction (to anything or any substance). I've seen it three or four times and if i feel like being depressed perhaps i'll view it again, though that is highly unlikely! It has an appropriate soundtrack so to speak. You know, actually, I was shown this movie in rehab (didn't get me sober if you're wondering). it's a powerful and moving picture but it's not my favorite "drug movie" nor is it my favorite movie, by far. if it were, for some reason I'd find it laughable, considering i'm already in a whirlwind of problems and there's only so many (few?) times before you get the point of it all. you know, the last treatment center i was in, there was a junkie who brought heroin into the rehab community, shot up in the bathroom and claimed he decided to START using junk after he saw this movie. which is both hilarious and sad to me at the same time. anyhoo, as far as entertainment goes i can live without ever seeing this film again.so yeh... thats my 2 cents for what it'd be worth to ya.

I've been watching youtube clips just because anything drug related interests me. It seems like it might be good but the guy losing his arm is a little mellow-dramatic.
(Mods feel free to blow that out if that gives too much info. :) )
