It a sedative anti-depressant with sedative effects. I take 60mg nightly and often end up mixing it with GHB and other depressants. I have also taken it with tryptamines (mushrooms dipt, dmt, amt etc.)with no really bad effects. When I experimented with 330mg I could hardly breath and got more visuals than an eighth of shroom caps. Does anyone take or abuse remeron/mirtazapine/ludiomil?

please be careful... Remeron is prescribed for the treatment of major depression--that is, a continuous depressed mood that interferes with everyday life. The symptoms of major depression often include changes in appetite and weight, difficulty sleeping, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, constant fidgeting or a slowdown in movement, fatigue, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, and suicidal thoughts... yadda, yadda, yadda.
We really aren't 100% sure as to its mechanism of action, but Remeron is thought to work by adjusting the balance of the brain's natural chemical messengers, especially norepinephrine and serotonin.
As far as drug interactions are concerned, I really suggest you rethink your practice of using Remeron in conjunction with other drugs (especially tryptamines). Serious, sometimes fatal reactions have been known to occur when drugs such as Remeron are taken in combination with MAO inhibitors. A good rule of thumb is to never take Remeron with one of these drugs or within 14 days of discontinuing therapy with one of them; and allow at least 14 days between stopping Remeron and taking a chemical which may acts as an MAO inhibitor.

I have read the fact sheet and what you said virtually came directly from that. I know all those things. When I ask my doctor he spews out some word for word PDR gibberish that I doubt he even understands. I know the dangers of seretonin syndrome. I (effectively) use the remeron as an antidepressant and try to take it nightly, even if that means mixing. What I want to know is if others take this medication ?

I have a close friend who takes it for depression and sleep; he has combined it with most things with no obvious adverse effects. In general it produces a sort of tripping in normal people. Lots of auditory hallucinations, and little imaginary dreams has been the experience of my friends in general.
Personally, the time I tried it, it more or less put me to sleep for the next two days straight. But I am especially prone to the sedative effects of antihistamines.

Sebastian: sounds like your are or are training to become a medical profession. I know remeron has never been directly involved in causing seretonin syndrome, and i've taken it with good doses of AMT and DXM with no death like reactions. Remeron seems to be the most effective anti-depressant I have ever tried but worry that i may develop a physical (sleep) dependency.

WTF??????
arghhhhhhh
I just wrote out this entire long fucking reply and posted it and it is NOT SHOWING UP.
I have taken Remeron. To briefly summarize:
1)DO NOT combine Remeron and shrooms. This can be a very dangerous and possibly FATAL interaction. SHROOMS + REMERON = VERY BAD!!!
2)Remeron is safe to take with all other drugs, excluding the MAOIs. I personally have taken it with basically every recreational drug you can imagine.
3) DO NOT take Remeron recreationally/to get high! It is not safe to take more than 60 mg a day of Remeron. This could lead to hepatoxicity (liver damage) and possibly neurotoxicity (brain damage). Please do not take more than your prescribed dosage!

Nymph: What makes you think that mushrooms and remeron could be fatal? Why would that not be true for other seretonin agonists, like 5-meo-dipt? I often wonder how much Remeron effects other CNS depressants such as GHB and diazapam.

I'm not sure exactly what mechanism makes the combo dangerous, but I almost had to go to the ER, and some sort of interaction between Remeron and shrooms was the only factor that could account for my reaction.
Remeron seems to potentiate CNS depressants in my experience.

This is pretty much the same thing. Psilocybin and psilocin both function as very weak MAOIs, as do all tryptamines to some degree (Someday soon I am going to finish up the last bit of my MAOI FAQ). On another note, if your depression is so bad that you are on Remeron rather than a weaker SSRI antidepressant you probably shouldn't be taking drugs anyways. But, hey, only you know your mind so whatever you think is right.

Ikarus --
What leads you to state that Remeron is "stronger" than the SSRIs? What are you basing this assessment on? They are different drugs with unique mechanisms of action; it's very difficult to compare them then in terms of potency. If anything, I would have to say SSRIs seem stronger, at least in my experience.

Maybe its stronger because of its sedative properties. Unlike other anti-depressants (save bupropion) Remeron seems to increase my energy during the day, maybe because I have a full night sleep. I took 40mg of AMT (my eyes are still dilated) today at 2pm and plan to take 60mg of remeron in about 30 minutes (10:00pm). I have to sleep so im going to take it even though i know AMT is an MAOI. I've combined them before and suffered some twitching/sweating but nothing too unpleasant. Maybe i could have had too much serotonin in my blood stream (spasm style)? I already took 5mg of diazapam and 1mg of xanax to take the edge of the AMT. At least there is no 5-htp in the equation.

Gee, that sounds like a fun combo!
Having "sedative properties" does not define potency, btw.
If anything, a antidepressant's efficacy in treating depression would determine its potency. And Remeron has NOT been show to be more effective than the SSRIs at treating depression.
