relapsing - happens more often w/ opiate addiction than meth, coke, alcohol, etc

I have to second the person saying about doing speed, although i've only done amphetamine sulphate. The last thing i'd want to do coming down from it is more speed, just the thought is revolting. It feels amazing to be sober again after and finally enjoy eating and just generally good.

A bit off topic but.... the advantage with opiates, is that there are two very effective substitutes (buprenorphine and methadone) so if you don't want to relapse you can allways go on maintenance (depending on country it can be expensive or free)...

If you're not already on a full agonist opioid, you shouldn't try to get on bupe, and definitely not methadone. Methadone is hyped up to be safer than it is it seems, it is quite addicting and gives you bad long lasting withdrawal effects just like most opioids.

I've been through binges with alcohol, pharm amps, etc. and it seems the drug I keep going back to is opiates. It's mainly because they aren't neurotoxic and I like the high. After using for a few years, I've been on suboxone maintenance now for a few months and I think it's great. I hope I can start tapering down soon. I can't get much below 12mg/day yet.

Overall, I'd say stim users relapse more. At least that's what I gather from talking to the lowest common addict(homeless, unemployed, living in the hood). There are quite a few older coke/crack addicts, but there aren't that many old heroin users. By old I mean older than 45-50 yo. Most either quit using heroin or just die.

Fuck, I don't think I answered the right question. Oh well...

I am long term opiate user... I relapsed all the way down, until methadone. I kept thinking I will quit over twenty years. I had wife and family, but...

Well, I must say, with pot I was nearest zero in relapsing on opiates, but I smoked pot every day... and I still craved.

I tried subutex and suboxone; I never bought those from street; indeed, I hated subutex (which is widely sold here). And I was on suboxone maintenance. But, bupe didn't help me, because I kept using illicit opiates and opioids where-ever I had chance. The thing was, I still craved full agonists in bupe... I never ever got over cravings with buprenorphine; and that was the main problem with it.

Now I have been two years on methadone, and everything is fine. I used last time when my dose was not holding me 24 hours. I like certain drugs still, but I don't have any problems (abusing I mean); and I like drugs from theorethical point of view mostly.

Methadone is fully satisfying to me. And I believe that it is much much better choice to me than buprenorphine
