relapse after 40 days

Swim has been clean from methadone for 40 days but relapsed and took 40mgs the other day. He was on 120 mgs a day but has only taken maybe a mg of suboxone on average once every five days also. He is wondering if the one time use of methadone will set him back. Any feedback will be much appreciated thanks

Hi and welcome to BL.

IMHO the way opiate detox works is that a person needs to remove all opiates and allow the system to adjust back to homeostasis. I would not think that the methadone was any more of a set back then the weekly use of the suboxone is.

They should not beat themselves up.. this shit is hard. Instead they should look at this as a process.. successfully getting through the process means taking things like this as a learning process.. what needs to be addressed in order not to fall in the same pot hole.

It shouldnt set you back far at all. Like NSA said this shit is hard. Sounds to me like your on the right track.

Nah man, no real set back. Don't dwell on it and beat yourself up - move on like nothing happened, you're doing a great job by the sounds of it. Well done.

Relapse is a normal part of recovery, but all is not lost. You're still doing better than if you hadn't made it to 40 days sober. Pick up the broken pieces and try again!
