IT'S no wonder Rudolph and his reindeer pals can fly: scientists say they have found that the animals regularly eat magic mushrooms to get high.

Scientist Andrew Haynes says reindeer deliberately seek out the mind-bending fungi to escape the monotony of dreary, long winters, Britain's The Sun newspaper reports.

Writing in the respected Pharmaceutical Journal, Haynes said: "They have a desire to experience altered states of consciousness."

indeed, ive read a similar article aswell.

i know where a patch of amnita m. grow, i would never dare take another psychedelic besides DMT, so i hunt mushies for the pics; i would atleast have to wait for the spores to drop, it would be a shame to destroy that lil family and their chosen home.

i told my wife to look for the patch and where when her and a friend went on a hike. she got pictures! :D they looked only half way developed, but definitely identifiable; a bunch of 'joly ol st nicks', i tried explaining the story, and think its amazing myself,,, it seemed like they thought i was reaching for a story, but no, its there!

On second thought, i pitty him. He has no idea how utterly brainwashed away from the truth he is... I bet he drinks.

And this is awesome, humans aren't the only species to enjoy getting high which makes drugs all the more awesome, particularly psychedelics. I wonder if deer would purposely ingest morphine or amphetamine for fun.

as i mentioned, im familiar with this story/explanation, and wondered the same but never investigated in the past 5-6 years haha,,,,

now im wondering, who says it has to be in the winter?
the reindeer are alive in the wet seasons as well.

it makes more sense then flying bearded men, overgrown deer and elfs and what not.

Why not? I'm sure there's gotta be at least a couple of reindeer that like trippin too. I can only imagine what they must be thinking. They probably got more shit figured out then some humans do. :p

But how they come up with that its to 'escape winter boredom' sounds like bullshit. Anyone could guess that. They might do if for any reason, who the fuck knows. Did they ask them?

almost definitely. in fact, mushrooms are celebrated around the entire world... many many symbols in our traditions reflect that at some point in time civilization was heavily enamored with the fungi

The lil monkeys would steal alcoholic beverages from vacationers and get wasted!!

Also, When scientests studied these monkeys, they noticed that the monkeys that drank the most alcohol were more respected as leaders by other monkeys.. If we worked that way then Ke$ha or Lindsay Lohan would he heads of the state!

we do work this way. if you think about it, our "alpha-male instincts" are increased by both alcohol's effects and by the effects of having been a drunk in the past ("dry drunk", e.g. G W Bush).
