From what i've been told by a couple of friends who have been in for minor crimes (I don't hang around with hardened crims before anybody thinks that, they were mostly mostly drug charges or shop lifting) there are lots of scare stories regarding the Meth detox. You will be detoxed yes, but yes it's fast, that but is true. You go down 5ml a day, but I don't know at what stage of the detox they start decreasing. I do know it's a 30 day one in the prison my mate went to.

According to what a mate told me, when it comes to cells, you don't HAVE to be doubled up. You will have the chance to go through your mental health history, if you tell them that you do not handle other people very well, and are prone flipping out if around people too often, basically just put it to them that you will be more of a hassle IF they double you up. He said there are ways around it. Of course it depends on space in the prison.

I can ask him some other questions for you?

I'm not really in the position to comment on your jollop situation , but I can't really see then letting you glug down somthing once your sentenced. As you could potentially be swallowing anything , and die in custerdy.
I don't know this for certain but it makes sence to me.

I can imagine that it's scary as fuck for you kat , get a few vals down ya , when your in the dock and act like a fish out of water scared/confused/ upset and lost...... Stay strong kat.

Edit .... And if you do get put in a 2 man cell , and you don't like like your pad mate, spend the first 2 nights sitting up crying/sobbing drive them mad don't let them sleep , they'll soon put in for a cell move , and bit of luck you'll get yourself a single .......HAPPY DAYS lol.

Like many things in gaol, it is as you make it. If you ask, the screw may so no. If you simply drink it - when you're in the holding cells below the court, or, if you're searched before, the instant it's indicated -and, if necessary, use your voice, they're unlikely to snatch it off you. In grey areas, it's up to you to define common sense.

Jesus, you're convinced you're going down, aren't you? There are better uses for your fertile imagination than contemplating the nick. It's like having to live in the police station. You meet some nice folk and some rubbish and you live inside your head a lot. Most people who've served time will tell you some of the finest moments of their life came in their cell. You handle staff and inmates by presenting aspects of your self. If you can't help showing you're vulnerable, remember you can appear scary to anyone who scares you. Show, and politely demand respect and keep a little distance until you know your company. You'll be fine, After all, most of the women in there will be dope offenders just like you.

It's not something I know about but some women's gaols are said to be in the vanguard of methadone detoxes. Until recently, you could stay on methadone throughout your sentence but the rules have been changed. I think only short-termers are maintained now but I'm not sure if female gaols are different. If you're worrying about it, get your solicitor to ring Holloway in the morning; they'll tell him the full details. In general population, dope's all around and there may even be separate wings for anyone wanting to stay drug free. It's the weirdest situation and, if you go in with your head right and can turn your vulnerability into that of the artist, you'll find the material for a seminal play. Nothing confuses people like the Drug Laws and, from a certain angle, dope cons like you are modern martyrs.

Prison'll be a growth experience and may actually turn your life around for the better. But you don't want to live in the cop shop. And, most important, you don't really belong in gaol and can do better things with your coming time. The public are fed all kinds of fantasies and it's assumed anyone guilty of trafficking has made bucks from it. If they can't find your money, you've hidden it well. If you live in poverty, you're in disguise or blew it on vice. You've only the judge on which to focus. Just be yourself and let him know the reality is nothing like the croc-o-shite playing in his other ear. There's no plant life in courtrooms and you may take a bit of nature to even up the odds. I'd take the optimum dope dose or combination for thinking but know that's difficult to manage, specially if you're tired. But your mum's at least gives you a bit of structure - think natural among your own and work outwards from basics. If the truth of the matter is you don't deserve gaol, the judge cannot but be receptive to that thought. It's up to you to make him think, anywhichway that works for you. If you're going to go hysterical, be zen hysterical.

Hi Kat,i know nothing anyone says will change the way you're fellin ' now,but if the worst happens it won't be anything like the picture in your head.Your health issuse won't be ignored and once you,ve got the shit out of your system and get into a little routine it's a breeze,i even liked the food(don't say much for my cooking)You'll get time to stop and think about the future and be able to do something about it,loads of courses and a goodish library and time to read.Think positive and the experience will change you for the better.you're not lacking in support and reading your letters will take take up most of the day!
Try and look after yourself,at least you won't be missing any nice gear.
 
Hi Kat! :) I hope your ok Hun?! What is the story with methadone in UK prisons? In Ireland if you are already on a methadone script before your sent to prison then when you go inside you just continue on with your script the same as if you were on the outside, there is no hurry to detox.

Are they going to make you detox if you go to prison or are you deciding to detox your self? If your given a choice then wouldn't it be better to settle in before you start a detox?

I googled "Will i be allowed to have my methadone script in a UK prison?" It came up with few other forums with people like yourself asking the same questions, the threads were all about 3 years old, but most people seemed to say that once you have a script on the outside then you can continue getting it on the inside for as long as you want, has this law changed? I remember people saying on here that methadone laws have become much stricter in the UK over the last year or so. :(

Have you already been told what will happen about your methadone script if your locked up? What did they say? If not is there someone that you can ring so that your script is sorted out in-case you go inside? I know if you go in it will be at the start of the weekend, but surly they will either supply your medication or else they should let you bring your own medication in.

Its so unfair you have enough to be worrying about without having to worry about Withdrawals as well! Here is a link that i found, i think the date on it is 2010, but it says that UK prisons readily had out methadone to the in-mates. I'll keep looking to see if i can find any info that might help you, but let me know if a decision has already been made about your Methadone script!

I know it must be so hard for you Kat, but try think positive, go into court & show them that you are a good person. Don't go in expecting to be locked up, the judge might look upon that as guilt. Put up a fight while staying cool & calm, i wish i knew more about this kind of thing, i wish i could give you decent advice. You know that we are all rooting for you Kat!!! <3 <3 <3
 
Can't believe you guys are still in such a horrible drought :( Used to follow these threads pretty regularly back when I was still using, got on maintenance and stopped reading 6 months ago, got bored and checked back today and you guys are still dry.... Hope it gets better soon /brofist from down under.

I think this thread is one of the best examples of real humanity ive ever seen online or in real life. everyone with a taste for the brown sugar has been through some weird times last 18 months and considering smackheads historically have a reputation for being awful liars, ive never seen levels of honesty and openess anywhere else. Admittedly when the drought kicked there were a few fucktards quick to get in on the act (the POOL - im looking at you - dont know where you are or what your up to but im glad your not hanging round here any more) but this is probably the first time in history where such a wide range of heroin users have suddenly realised they re not alone, they are not subnormal and they have finally got the chance to qualify the weird and sometimes downright damaging consequences of opiate dependance. Im sure anyone familiar with Kats posts and her predicament have had quite alot of food for thought recently, there for the grace of god go any of us, she has done nothing wrong in the grand scheme of things and her bravery and pragmatism during this awful period will be of benefit to anyone reading as much as i am sure she has benefitted from the encouragement and support she has had from the likes of ructions, hux, charlie and all the other contributors that have stayed the course.

Depressing? Life is depressing this thread is rare source of light for us and our illogical and strange behaviours
 
No, it's the Drug Laws that are depressing. Such is the relentless propaganda to justify their continuing enforcement that it's easy to grow confused and think something else is responsible for the sad posts of the many and varied victims of prohibition madness. It shouldn't be this way and it's up to people like you to howl for change.

Well I'm glad you perceive it that way, I truly do. A sense of community is very important. I have never experienced heroin first-hand or even anything from the opiate family (I don't think one co-codamol for an awful migraine counts). It still depresses me to see a lot of you struggle with the way of life that you have chosen. Kat's predicament being a pretty obvious example. I read a lot of Burroughs in my teenage years, and despite being intrigued by the positive effects of heroin, I was mainly put off by the sickness and that overwhelming desperation to stave off that inevitable sickness. And so when I read about you guys struggling to find dope even worth putting in your veins, it just doesn't seem worth the hassle (but that's obviously easy for me to say - because I'm not dependent on opiates). It's sort of like how I don't get why a lot of my friends love spending hundreds and hundreds of pounds on coke, when the quality of the stuff is absolutely pathetic. My preferred drugs are ketamine and weed. Obviously ketamine can lead to horrendous health problems. But I can go for months without touching it (which I've been made to do up until recently, because of that worldwide drought), without experiencing anything similar to opiate withdrawals. And weed, well, that's just an unjustly persecuted plant, which would be legal if it weren't for morons in positions of power. I guess it's all a question of choice, but after taking interest in the junkie's lifestyle, I can only come to one conclusion: it just doesn't seem worth it. I'm sure the obvious response to that would be, "well you haven't tried it! It's FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, you twat! Better than sex...the best high the world has to offer!" But nausea, dirty needles and intolerable withdrawals outweigh the positive effects, surely? Haha, I probably sound so ignorant. Just my opinion.

Yes, life can be extremely depressing. Probably why we're all on this forum, discussing drugs. Shame that drugs are just a very temporary solution to the problem. Oh and usually just perpetuate and exacerbate the problem, too.

My bus leaves Birmingham coach station at 4am on friday so I will most likely be around on here on thursday evening at some point-no point trying to sleep on the thursday
tomorrow I am going to get my straggly hair cut short
I have started wearing my glasses instead of contact lenses and people barely recognise me
I am also going tomorrow,to the dental hospital to get at least one,maybe more teeth out.
wanna go into that court looking as straight as possible

I know this is the least of it in the grand scheme of things kat but the machine will take the money back after about 15 - 20 seconds just give the bank a ring to confirm what happened and they will refund your account

Kat i remember when your biggest fear was telling your mum & family, and now I hear you say they're cool. that makes me happy. Its also proof that fear of the anticipated unknown is often worse than the reality. I think our minds always go to the worst case scenario so we're often pleasantly surprised. You'll be fine, you're strong. Repeat that to yourself when times get hard - hang tough ;) <3

I'm not really scared of jail
the whole trial and getting incarcerated process is unsettling as I never done it before
the thing that scares me is the rapid methadone detox in store
my mate just got out and he said they keep you on it for about 4weeks to make sure you have a good habit then reduce you by 5ml a day
so that's pretty fast and with my ultra slow metabolism it will be horrible
I am prescribed 80mg seroquel a day which will help
also 4mg clonazepam but I don't wanna come out with a benzo habit
 
It will be horrible, but you'll be fine. You know its not gonna kill you & you know its out of your hands. All these difficult decisions and choices (that some never manage to make) have been taken from you which can be a blessing, and are what some people seek from prison. Clean up, look smart, bounce back. Grit your teeth and one day soon the misery of this fear & worry will be a memory. Put one foot in front of the other, don't waste your energy on worry. Keep distracted, try & find something to do when the fear grips you. Very wise to be wary of the benzos,but they'll help you get through.

Also SteveSircull can i just say that your post about how people have come together on this thread & showed compassion to each other was a really touching post! & what you said is so true, well in my case anyway i have got great comfort from all the posters on this thread. Heroin is something that i can't talk about to family or non drug using mates, if any of my family knew i was using heroin it would break their hearts! I don't know how i've managed to keep it a secret for all these years, but i have. I Never EVER want them to find out coz it would bring them so much pain & worry. :(

But your post was really heart-warming! :) I'm so glad that i have found the great friends that i have found on this thread, its so great to talk to people who really understand & who don't just think your a dirty low-life junkie! Your post sounded like it came from your heart, you have a great way with words SteveS! :)

& Kat what Badandwicked said is so SO true, you were dreading telling your Parents & you've managed to face that, your a strong woman & a good person, the judge will see that!

(P.S. What is a 'Notebook'? Is it like one of those 'Kindles' yokes? I was thinking of getting a Kindle so that i can download books, does anyone know if they are any good? I read a lot & i have piles of books all around the house, every few months i give a load of my books to charity, but then the just start building up again! So i was thinking a Kindle might be a good idea, but i haven't heard much about them.

I buy about one book a week, books are normally between €8 & €14, i wonder if its much cheaper to download books to a kindle? I've checked on the Amazone site but the prices are all in either $ or £, i can't get a price in €uro & as we all know at this stage the €uro is the rip off of the century!!! So if anyone has or knows about the Kindle will you let me know if they are any good? Can you get a good selection of books at a good price? & is the screen easy to read off? Thank-you! <3 )
