I've been trying to find a feasible way to reduce the ketone group on methylone 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylcathinone to MDMA 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methamphetamine.

I've considered the Wolff-Kishner reduction for the ketone to an alkane, but unfortunately there is no way to do this without the grignard reagent reacting with the amine (the HN). My chemistry isn't good enough to know if it will also break down the methylenedioxy group on the left either.

I've also looked at reduction with Lithium Aluminum Hydride, but since LAH is so reactive I'm worried that it might react with the methylenedioxy or with the amine as well. ALCl3 Aluminum Chloride also has the same downsides as LAH.

The Wolff-Kishner reduction seems the most promising at the moment, the only problem is that an organometallic reagent of any kind will break down the amine.

Does anyone know any methods where this reduction would be possible/feasible?
