Misc Reduce throat irritation from chewing nicotine gum?

I find that chewing 4mg of nicotine gum ever few hours relieves cravings however I have to spit out in a cup because it starts to irritate my throat. I don't swallow the saliva as I did once in the past and it burned my throat horribly (sensation not actual burning) along with gave me intense nausea.
 
Black licorice has always soothed my throat but from other adult activities:)
Cognac gargle works better than anything for an irritated throat imo
Good luck on quitting smoking, im watching my father die pass away suffering from lungs, not a way to go at all. Im still smoking because I'm overstressed but I am quitting after the funeral
