Opioids Redosing Codeine

Alright, I've been reading about half-life of drugs and I have a basic question.

I dosed about 240mg of codeine about 7 hours ago. I got very high, with a decent amount of euphoria.

It's now 7 hours later and I'm planning on dosing about 190-200mg, but I read somewhere that the half-life is 2.9 hours, and about 90% leaves your body within 24 hours.

If I were to dose about 200mg right now, would the amount that's in my body right now stack with my current dose?

Example: I dosed 240mg before, if I were to take 200mg right now would that bring it up to a total of 440mg?

I'm just worried because I'm sure if I took 440mg at once that I would overdose.

Is this how it works or would it just be 200mg if I dosed right now?
 
It's pointless redosing codeine, it inhibits the enzyme that converts it to morphine. You will just get more nausea and a greater histamine response.

Taking 440mg at once wouldn't be an overdose either, maybe uncomfortable if you have no tolerance but you would be fine.
 
I appreciate the quick responce, but could you answer the question about the half life?

I took 240mg earlier, if I dosed 200mg now, considering it hasn't left my system, would it bring the total dose up to 440mg, or would I be perfectly fine?
 
You will be fine, the half-life of morphine (which codeine is converted into) is around four hours, how drugs interact with the brain and blood stream is tricky though, I can't really explain it now but basically most of that is in your blood or being metabolized. So if you dose up now you will be fine.

But like I said, re-dosing with codeine won't work, not much of your redose will be converted into morphine.

I know it's annoying, but I'd like to clarify (I'm a very cautious person), even thought it won't work.

When you take lets say 100mg of a drug with a half life of 2.9 hours, and you redose 100mg later on, would the redose stack on top of the previous does and make it 200mg?

That's the last clarification, and thanks in advanced.
 
^ No, because some of it has been metabolized already. You will be adding on to the effects, but not as though you had taken 200mg in the first place. That's why doing 200mg over the course of a few hours isn't as powerful as 200mg all at once.

Depending on what drug it is, etc, it can still put you into overdose. But in this case, with codeine, you will be fine.

Unless you are using it for pain, redosing is pointless basically with codeine.
 
I am using it for pain, but I figured I might as well get high while I'm at it. I fucked up my shoulder pretty bad the other day.

What makes codeine safer then other drugs to redose, and what makes codeine less likely to give me an overdose?

Because after you dose once your body uses enzymes to convert the codeine to morphine, if you dose a second time less of that enzyme is available to convert it into more morphine, which is why i think he's saying re-dosing is kinda pointless since it won't have the same effect as if you took it all at once. Or if it was a drug that wasn't a pro-drug. That's just what im thinking. I could be wrong.
 
I'm not saying it's safer, I'm saying it's useless. With pain maybe not, because there is some evidence that one of the metabolites, codeine-6-glucorinide, may have some analgesic properties but probably not euphoric properties. It's not 'safer' then other substances, I don't remember saying that...
