sweet. are 70s style glam rock typefaces cool again yet? they should be. %)

Wow I can't believe how bad most of these logos are. Seriously get a graphic designer like chrissie to design one and it won't suck. Logo's are supposed to be simple, memorable and work in black and white.

Constructive: Logo's are supposed to be simple, memorable and work in black and white.

everything looks good while tripping, silly!!!! especially exclamation marks :p

Something I cooked up just messing around. Obviously it wouldn't be that big but but maybe someone can improve upon it or something.

Folks, we have a winner. Until this one, all the other submissions were far inferior and amateurish compared to the current BLUELIGHT (_/_) logo that's up there on the site header at the moment.

I think the standard that should be set is - would you want your logo submission on merchandise? Would you wear a baseball cap or a t-shirt or whatever with the logo submission alone on it? If not, then it's probably not worth putting on the website either.

Stop thinking in terms of just a banner on a website's header, and think about designing a logo for a real organization. Think of Bluelight in terms of the leading global harm reduction organisation. Think about how effective the Red Cross' logo has been through the years. Think about Nike's logo. And so on...

a more important aspect, which is what this thread is referring to, is how would it look hugely reduced in size on the website, on the top of every page. i think a lot of submitters are forgetting this basic fact. :)

those aussie girls in the bluelight banner that muzby posted look like they're tripping on something. how old are they anyway? wtf are they doing tripping at their age?? ;)

Actually, to follow on a few things I've picked up in reading this entire thread just now

1 - size is not defined
2 - color scheme not dictated, and need not follow the skin of the 'future site' as it may in fact influence what the 'future site' skin is set to be
3 - think outside the box
4 - definition of logo
A logo (Greek λογότυπος = logotypos) is a graphical element, (ideogram, symbol, emblem, icon, sign) that, together with its logotype (a uniquely set and arranged typeface) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, a logo's design is for immediate recognition.[1] The logo is one aspect of a company's commercial brand, or economic or academic entity, and its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are different from others in a similar market. Logos are also used to identify organizations and other non-commercial entities.
...meaning the 'logo' ought to scale from a favorite.icn to a piece of the new site's web display to flyers and perhaps eventually banners. The ability to go two tone (black and white, blue and white, whatever) and size scalability are important on a 'logo'. That said, there would be room for many of the 'image designs' presented here to perhaps be incorporated in one way or another with the new site. But a brand logo for Bluelight.ru.....needs to be something that lasts until we go bankrupt (coming in '09 unless we kick in those donations!)....but ought to last a long, long time.

So, I suppose the question is - are we designing a brand designation, or simply another graphical piece of the site (ie, updating the current light bulb arrangement). Because, in my mind, we're going live and world-wide, folks...and that means brand. (licensing aside, I'm partial to snoopy images, ftr).

play with this idea
blsmallmd8.jpg

lower case bl in a sorta yin-yang turns out looking also like an unravelled capsule inside a solid circle reminiscent of a pill
simple
distinguishing
meaningful

or total crap... up to you

if someone could make the lines a little thicker and smoother, i reckon ^this^ would be fricken perfect

What if the logo was photographic. Get something like a blue dolphin pill, a truly blue pill, shave the logo off with a razor and carve "BL" into it with a tiny knife? Then use that photograph as the logo?

What about making an SVG file (vector drawing) of a blue pill with BL stamp, and then fill it with a real gritty MDMA pill texture derived from a photograph?

i say again:

i think i still like this one the best:

simple, elegant, classy, great colours, and will scale up or down easily. i would love to see that at the top of our screens. :)

i wish i had the talent to do something for this...
