Tyramine in certain foods and in red wine help keep insulin levels down in the body. Elevated levels of insulin can lower growth hormone levels and testosterone which are both necessary in building muscle mass. Alcohol is also known to lower testosterone levels and raise estrogen levels which is horrible when trying to gain muscle weight. My question is this... Do the benefits of tyramine from the red wine neutralize the negative effects of the alcohol? Whatever the case, red wine seems to be the best choice of alcohol for those who are trying to gain weight, and the healthiest choice of alcohol for most people ( but not for those who are on MAOIs).

if you have access to a search of scientific literature, I would look their. good question though
