rectal bleeding from opiate constipation?

is it possible? when i go mostly blood is coming out. i did have a few large bowel movements that caused pain a few days ago, so i figure that might explain the bleeding now. i started miralax yesterday and i am rapidly tapering off the suboxone that i think is causing the constipation.

i know i should go to a doctor but i am unemployed and on medicaid. i don't even have my medicaid card yet.

i'm quite afraid and alone. i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? did getting off the opiate and regaining daily bowel movements make it stop?

thank you

You can get some acute hemorrhoids, other bleeds from constipation that can cause bloody stools. Couple Usually bright red as compared to darker. BRBPR

I had that after time on oxy for surgery. It resolved with some hemorrhoid stuff and miralax/colace. Was a little creepy how much, but I bleed a lot

But a lot of blood / darker would be concerning, and I think probably should get evaled in time (I get it not having insurance for now), especially if it continues, you have gi risk factors or anemia or something. Don't want a lower gi bleed /diverticular / some injury.

i appreciate the reply,

it's bright. but there's enough of it to scare me. if it doesn't resolve itself soon i will certainly seek medical attention. it's just scary. and there's a 50/50 chance the doctor will be mean to me if i mention illicit opiate use. plus i could lose my ativan script.

i really hope getting off the bupe and using miralex resolves the issue. fuck is it scary to shit blood.

It is freaky to see at first, can look like a lot. Keep up with your food/hydration/stuff and hopefully it will pass. (I mean iron and such after the constipation has resolved some can be good.)

Yeah, just bad constipation is enough to mention, recent diet stuff, if you end up going.

Certainly something to consider watching (opioid-induced constipation) on possible future use though.

never happened like this before. heroin, dilaudid, opana, none of those make it this bad. i think because you get a little sick between doses with those, and that lets you go.

so yes, noted. thanks for the reply, negrogesic. and the additional reply, checktest. i'm going to continue cutting my dose rapidly, eating, working out, drinking water, and taking miralax (first dose was yesterday, just took today's). if it doesn't clear up through that regime, i'll figure out how to see a doc with medicaid and explain everything but the opiate.

thanks again. huge relief to know that it's not unheard of.

I have the same issue right now!! From Norco use. I have been to the dr. Most likely hemorrhoids. Bright Red is very good news , and your stools are not dark black ( Blood soaked) that can be a bigger problem!! I grind whole flax seeds ( 4 Tble spoons) coffee grinder works best; and drink with a cup of warm water . Vert very good for you, and will give you nice soft poops. Also Tucks pads to wipe your bottom with are a good solution as well. If you stop tearing the walls of your colon, you will be fine. Sorry to say ( don't know your age but hemorrhoids are a fact of getting older, many women also get them during child birth, { All that dam pushing}
Colon Rectal cancer does not usually bleed, Not bright red, and does not cause pain, that is why it is very important to get a Colonoscopy after 50 and then every five years!!

BTW: this is one hell of a change, from my last thread, I have been reading Capt. H sucking on Painfuls tits, Madness getting fucked in the ass, and Painful being Fucked :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:    :p :p :p :p

Do not mention the drug use, just say that due to current economic issus your diet has not had enough fiber and you have been constipated with very hard bowel movements.
will not be a broblem

It's hemorrhoid related. This happens to me whenever I get constipated because of years of opioid constipation. It's pretty alarming, but not a sign of anything too serious. Once the constipation goes away, you should see this improve and dissipate but you will be more prone to it happening in the future, in my experience. I find that stool softeners are quite helpful. As is fiber.

if your losing blood in your stool be sure to stay hydrated and eat plenty of fiber. One thing ive used in the past, and currently with kratom induced constipation is magnesium supplements. no matter how constipated, due to whatever really, a bit too much magnesium supplements will clean you right out. TMI i know but hopefully helpful.

find that fine line between loperamide induced constipation and being able to go normally. Obviously if it continues or you feel worse, go see a doctor. Its not worth dying over. And as others have said just describe your symptoms. Being on opiates is your business and yours only.

it is alarming at first, but as long as it is bright red in color, its nothing to lose sleep over. There's no doubt opioid induced constipation may be the culprit in your case, but this is a common problem for many people for many reasons.

I definitely have had severe constipation from oxycodone before, but I also have unrelated IBS which causes the occasional hemorrhoid. It could also be a small tear in the skin that can heal then become re- aggravated again and again after each bowel movement.

another thing to be aware of is some medications can cause you to bleed more freely. I find myself taking quite a bit of ibuprofen, and I think it undoubtedly has this effect.

as others have said, I definitely would not mention any unprescribed drug use to your doctor unless you were in a much more dire situation. 99% of the time they will not be compassionate or realistic. They will only try to protect themselves from liability, which is understandable, but not helpful to you...

Just to carry on from what others have said, it can sometimes look like a lot of blood, a horrifying amount, but actually it usually isn't anything like what you imagine. Just 1/4 of a teaspoon can make everything look bloody, and can mix up with mucus to look like far more. I'd recommend some whole psyllium husks several times a day, alongside your miralax, if you can afford them (they're usually just a few bucks), to add a bit of very soft bulk. And start taking some zinc carnosine if you're worried about damage deeper inside the GI tract.

I have found that even two mgs of sub can change my stool into rocket balls. Im currently on oxy about 150 mgs a day. I had to bridge with sub for five days before I could get my next script. I use plain but big ASS (240mg) stool softners with the oxy. Three with every meal works well. With the sub, my poop became flying goat balls! Don't know your dose but getting lower may not resolve it. But any reduction is good for you!

ah.... the rectal bleeding.
do not wipe with toilet paper and if you do be super gentle as there are some tiny capillaries there that if roughened will bleed. Thought I was dying and bleeding out... found it was from wiping too hard/often after :poop:-ing.
I use wet-wipes now and the problem hasn't returned... also (TMI) my bum is cleaner... win/win. ;)
just throwing that out there... can be researched.
love

If it's only happening when you're trying to shit it's hemorrhoids. Or possibly some tissue inside the anus was torn when you pushed out a hard spiky poo. Opiates do that.

Best way to combat this is regular magnesium citrate use (magnesium works as a stool softener, it seriously works really well just make sure you drink plenty of water) and Movicol or whatever it's called in your country (macrogol is the generic name, I think Miralax might be the same thing).

Those two combined should fix your opiate constipation. And it goes without saying, shit first then dose your opiate.

The bleeding itself will heal, if it isn't getting better after a week or so see a doctor, but usually these things are benign and heal up fairly quickly even if they look scary. Bright blood means it's not coming from inside your body, if it was dark then you would have to worry.

And obviously don't push hard on the loo either. Yes it's very tempting to do so when you can feel something wanting to come out, but pushing doesn't actually help and just causes worse, more painful, more bleeding hemorrhoids and will delay healing or outright make 'em worse or cause more of the fuckers.

So opiates are part to blame, but as I found out recently after having to take strong opiates for pain relief post surgery, it’s all about diet.

When I was younger I had the worst constipation from opiates.. I’d sit on the toilet for hours just to wiggle out the tiniest little brick of a turd.

These days I eat a diet fairly rich in fiber, I avoid sugars, and I eat foods which contain probiotics. Even with all the opiates I was shitting fairly normally. Opiates make people crave sugar I’ve noticed and can cause the issue to get out of control.

Yeah diet does help a lot. Curiously the NHS site actually says fibre doesn't help opiate constipation but I've not found this to be the case.

Regular doses of magnesium help a massive amount too.

These days I can be using opiates daily and still go every morning like clockwork by having a good diet, drinking a lot of water, taking magnesium, not dosing opis in the evening, and as a last resort using Movicol (rarely needed if the rest is followed).
