I watched Rise of the Planet Apes the other night, although I now want a drug monkey the film was mediocre at best. Nothing special although Cesar is the boy and there are a few cool bits in the movie, overall lacking a bit on the plot side I felt.

Saw The Social Network last night, struggled to get past the first 10mins, the voice of Mark Zuckerburg was very annoying. Plot was alright once I got into it but doesn't hold much truth from what I can gather and overall I wouldn't watch it again or recommend it to anyone.

Saw Animal Kingdom earlier, thought it was decent and a bit different. It's about Aussie gangsters, although I fell asleep towards the end it's probably worth a watch and I'll look into it again at a later date.

Going to watch Fast Five tonight, it looks promising. Got to love The Rock from the old WWF glory days when I was a kid.

Still seem to be struggling the last few days for a decent film, last few have been mediocre or outright not worth the watch. The new Saw the other night was good with mates all tripped out on MXE.

Watched 'the long riders' on saturday night. It's a western about Jesse James' gang portrayed with a slight bias to the gang. I don't normally watch westerns but my dad put this on and I can say I really did enjoy it. Great special effects / shootouts for its time.

Watched 'enter the wild' today and can honestly say this is one of the most moving films I've ever seen. It's about a young graduate in America who is sick of society, material wealth and blames his parents for the way he sees the world. He runs away with a dream of living out in the wild and eventually finding some sort of spiritual answer. He meets many people on his journeys all over North America. I can't believe I'd never heard of this film before and I strongly reccomend it. It is 2 and a half hours long mind.

Going to watch it later maybe. Fast Five was brilliant, a bit over the top at times but well worth the watch even though the copy wasn't the best. Best out of any of the Fast and Furious films I've seen.

Lol, that's not really saying much. I've had it downloaded for a while now but I doubt I'll ever actually watch it unless I'm in a total comedown mess & just need something to look at without having to think.

Film I've watched recently that I thought were good - Kill List, Red State, Fantastic Mr Fox, Super. I can't be fucked to explain why they were good or what they're about, just watch them. Good quality copies of them all online apart from possibly Kill List, I haven't looked for it online.

I watched a film called Holy Rollers the other night, was decent enough & quite interesting as it's apparently based on a true story about Hasidic (sp?) Jews smuggling swedgers in to America. It did seem a bit fast & short though, it seemed to be over very quickly once it got properly started

Haha your right, it isn't really saying much. It is way better than any of the other ones though.

I've got Neds for later, duno if it's any good or not the reviews are mixed. Also have Hobo with a Shotgun on Evads recommendation. And 24hour Party People..

Kill List looks good.

Also watched a bit of the Howard Marks film, ditched it pretty quick wasn't impressed.

I enjoyed the premise of enter the wild a lot more than I enjoyed the actual film. I found it really difficult to like the main character. He was so up his own ass and pseudo-intellectual, and instead of actually meaning anything it just seems to become a story about a self centered asshole. I hate the way his sister holds him in high regard all the way through, like he is a genius and a free spirit; When really it seems all the way through he is an idiot and worthy of a Darwin award. None of the characters, apart from the old man, were really that good or particularly deep or lovable. I think most of us would love to just drop out and go travelling on a shoe string, and live the dream. But we wouldn't wrap it up in passive aggressive bullshit like not ringing home once, or sending a letter, despite meeting a couple mirroring exactly what your parents are going through right now.

Neds is decent enough, the ending is utter fucking nonsense though. Still worth watching. Hobo With A Shotgun is tremendous, I reckon you should watch that later. 24 Hour Party People is fairly good as well, I watched it again recently & tbh it wasn't as good as I remembered but, again, it's still worth watching.

I kind of liked Mr Nice but only because I had read the book years ago so knew all the stuff they'd missed out & it all made a lot more sense to me than it would to someone who never read the book, the films skims past so much too quickly without giving any proper background. Like his relationship with the Pakistani (possibly, not 100% sure) guy. There is essentially nothing in the film about the relationship between the two of them other than a couple of phone calls & I think 1 meeting, whereas in reality it was a lot more than that. Same with IRA guy, they just used him for a bit of humour in the film. I think I would have hated it if I hadn't read the book.

Definitely watch Animal Kingdom again. It's one of the best films I've seen in a while.

Animal Kingdom was good, it was cool to see 'real' Australian people instead of ridiculous stereotypes. If you liked this 'Gettin Square' is quite good, although not as good as Animal Kingdom because it's a bit more tongue in cheek. But the laughs are good.

Some films i've watched lately that were wicked:
The Guard - Of all the films i'm recommending this is probably the best i've seen all year. Set in Ireland a police officer who is apathetic and a bit dodgy ends up being expected to actually do his job. Laughs all the way through. If you read the description online and you're unsure whether to watch it or not just switch it on and I guarantee it will make you crack up within 3 minutes of it being on, and it just gets better.

R - a film about a guy going into Denmark's toughest prison. It's basically him just trying to survive. Proper brutal, and not at all what I thought any Danish prison would ever be like. I'm sure we've all heard about stories of them being holiday camps over there, well that isn't the case in this film!

Kontroll - a film about the lives of people working, living and dealing with the weirdos that seem to use the underground in Budapest. The film is really really good on any kind of trippy shit you have. It starts out relatively normal, but strange nonetheless, and gradually gets freakier and freakier. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this as much if I wasn't fucked, but the cinematography mixed with the sound track was just great.

Michael Clayton - A film about a fixer for a big law firm in New York who gets caught up in the middle of a huge dangerous conspiracy when a whistle blower begins fucking things up for a huge corporation. Very well acted by everyone involved and a brilliant story.

Bad education - A twisty turny, excellently filmed and made movie, set in Spain. This film is actually really difficult for me to describe, so just read this description and you won't ruin it for yourself but you'll have a clue what you're getting yourself into (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bad_education/) There's lots of mystery and a good revenge plot underlying it. Really good.

Black Dynamite - Sweet film. Funny from start to finish. An over the top 70s black power film made in the present day. Had me literally in tears quite a few times, I think I almost broke a funny fuse at one point. Watch it with some mates and you'll be using loads of catch phrases from it for months to come! All I can say to summarise this film is - BLACK DYNO-MIIITTTE! Ya dig?

The Host - A Korean film about a giant monster that starts attacking Seoul. A nice new fresh perspective on your monster movie.

I've been focusing on foreign films recently. There seems to be dozens of films that are as good as my favorite British and American films that i've just totally missed because i'd never heard of them.

+1 for Black Dynamite. Excellent movie. They did a really good job of making a proper funny blaxploitation film that doesn't come across as a spoof or parody.

If you liked that I'd recommend Boss Nigger, blaxploitation film set in the wild west lol. It's ridiculously un-PC & hilarious. Cadillac pimp music playing when he's riding about on his horse etc.

Trailer - If you don't want to watch it after seeing that then there's something wrong with you lol. "They call him Boss, Boss Nigger" haha.

Upon DJ Crises' recommendation I watched "The Lives of The Saints" and it was fuckin epic :)
Small Synopsis said:
Mr Karva runs a shady little empire in North London. His stepson, Othello, has ambitions to take over; and Othello's cowardly friend, Emilio, has ambitions of his own. But when a small child is found some strange things start to happen.

It may sound dull but it's got fantastic direction, a wonderful script and great actors :)
Tis available on iplayer till the 17th ;)
Heartily recommended

this isnt a movie... however its better than any movie ive seen for a long time... so fuck it, im gonna post it.

Breaking Bad = masterpiece

indeed. its awesome. and you can pretend to yourself you're actually watching an important philosophical thought experiment instead of just watching tv. i'd put it up there with the wire and the sopranos, though maybe prematurely as we'll have to see how it ends.

There's only one more season left after this one :( That at least gives me hope that they can keep the storyline nice and neat, whilst upto its usual spectacular standards as always! The fact that not one single channel here, even on cable, hasn't picked up this show just mates me dislike the UK and its population of X-Factor loving retards even more!

Eh... it totally comes across as spoof! and wiki says "It is a spoof of 1970s blaxploitation films".

Good though.

I watched London Boulevard after seeing Arnold's recommendation, it was really good thanks.

Well you're just weird then. Take the scene where he's doing kung-fu and his auntie phones him, he goes to hang up before she finishes speaking and he's struggling to get the handset onto the receiver while giving a hundred-mile stare into the distance. That is classic spoof, or probably more correctly parody, a la Leslie Nielson and Airplane. (yeah he wasn't in Airplane 2).

I think there might be some confusion on it being a spoof because it is clearly very similar to blaxploitation films; It kind of has to take the piss out of itself a little bit though because no one would ever take it even slightly seriously in this day and age. Still, a really good film produced to a very high standard. I enjoyed it all the more for the spoofy aspects of it. It's more like they are going for every laugh possible, but I would lean more towards it not being a spoof.

Hmm OK, to be honest I've only watched the first ten minutes or so, so I'll suspend my judgement till I've seen the whole thing, but the humour that I've seen in it so far is clearly of the spoof/parody variety, i.e. "this is what they did in the originals, how silly, look we'll show you how ridiculous it was". I certainly don't think it's true to say it's a standard blaxploitation film that just happens to be funny, it's humour of a particular kind. So far!

And being very similar to blaxploitation films doesn't mean it's not a parody, all parodies are similar to the original!
