Watched Shame tonight. It is a beautiful film, superbly acted and filmed, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere and I left the cinema wondering what the point was. I suppose that makes me a philistine.

Haha, sounds like Drive II or something...

Has anyone watched Snowtown yet? I would like to know what others think of it. It is an intriguing and honest look inside the lives of people involved in/experiencing some fucked up shit. I can't decide if it is just a tad too grotesque and disturbing though.

I've seen Jackie Brown but nay on Harry Brown.
Sounds good though :) Chase and Status involved? Count me in ;)

There's a grand, but slow-paced, Finnish film on Film4 called "Lights in the Dusk" at 2:25am.
Honestly, for those who like their movies to fly by like a bullit then it may not be for you, but for those who don't mind a slow-paced film, you may enjoy it muchly :)

Lights in the Dusk (2006)

S'really fuckin good that Colt :)
Not about Banksy at all really, but some mentalist Frenchman.

And yer welcome Mugz ;) Hope you enjoy!

Harry Brown is decent, the Banksy doc is fucking quality.

Anyone seen The Rum Diary that can remember the book well? It's been a while since I read it but I'm sure they've turned 2 characters into Sanderson, I could have swore the hot bird (Chanel) & her crazy American boyfriend just live in a beach hut in the book?

I might be wrong about the specifics but I'm 99% sure that there's a major character missing.

That is weird Dan, I watched Banksy earlier on. Harry Brown is really good aswell, proper quality film.

Still thinking what to watch tonight....

Harry brown is quality indeed :)

Watch the Bill hicks - american story documentary film

i've decided on 24hour party people, reckon that with some crazy lighting an a healthy dose of special K should make for some interesting viewing...:D

I was mildly entertained by Harry Brown, but in retrospect it was a total piece of poop. revenge movies get less and less appealing by the day. plus it had a really naffly done ending

Cronenberg's new one just got news-grouped [probably on torrents too], for anyone interested. based on freud and jung. will probably wait to see it at a cinema though

Snowtown is only really enjoyable if you like watching torture and brutality. it's well made and well directed but in no way entertaining, nor informative either imo. mainly a retelling of the circumstances which surrounded some exceptionally gruesome murders in Australia in the 90's. It'd be far easier and less depressing to read a decent newspaper article about it. I like horror movies so I'm not overly squeamish, but prefer black humour/gore to a reality tale played in explicit detail.

Can't wait to see Shame tho. it looks ace

I bloody love that ^_^
It's really lovely to have some background on him and his friends when they were yay high, and just to get a better understanding of him as a person :)

Aye I'm looking fwd to seeing Cronenberg's new one. Always been impressed with the vast majority of his work :)
And fuck yeshhhhh on "Shame".
Steve McQueen is a fantastic new addition to British cinema. "Hunger" is without doubt one of my all-time-favourite films.
Really can't wait to see what else he comes up with in the future.

I feel the same way about Snowtown. I wouldn't say that I 'enjoyed it' as such, but I still feel it was an excellently done film and worth watching. The thing that I liked about it was the uncompromising way it depicted everything, instead of making the serial killer into a hero of sorts it portrays him as the sick individual he is, and I like the way they set up the dynamic between the killer and the family he has decided to latch onto. I also found it interesting watching a film that made you feel different emotions that other cinema has done poorly or completely neglected. A bit like going to Auschwitz I guess. Not exactly somewhere you'd want to go on your yearly 2 week break or for Christmas, but something that is worth seeing for yourself once nevertheless.

I am looking forward to seeing Shame too, I just hope it isn't a meandering look into the life of a sex addict. I would rather there was an actual story, even if it isn't exactly true to life.

Very interesting documentary film things ive seen recently,

Senna,

TT - closer to the edge,

Gonzo: Life and work of Doctor hunter S Thompson

Banksy - Exit Through The Giftshop

50 Dead men walking was alright, kinda
