Recommend the best and/or most expensive meal you have ever had.

my favourite/most memorable night out to dine was a family dinner (all 12 of us) at the flower drum restaurant in melbourne. its a six course all night affair with the nicest ambience and atmosphere that you dont want to leave; and the food; like no other. theres a three month waiting list to get a reservation; although with the company i was in we breezed through the door and ate with all of the families celebrating the formula one; sharing a table with the schumacher clan. best. night. evah. too much shuchu (yes, i know its japanese but these guys cater for everything!) and japanese slippers. 
id highly recommend it for a special occassion.

Best? In Manhattan's Little Ukraine, a neighbourhood that is almost extinct today, on 1st Avenue and E.3rd St. Is a no name store front, staffed by a late middle aged portly Ukranian lady whose makes delicious East European food.
What Americans, and most American-Jews consider to be "Jewish Food" is actually, to be exact, "Ashkenazi Food." Ashkenazi Food is merely a Kosher taken on Polish, Ukranian and Russian foods.
The lady is no Jewish, and maybe that is why I am so enamored with her food. I have eaten the type of food all my life, but never with pork, never mixing dairy and meat.
I actually go to the Ukraine most years, but have never eaten non-kosher food there because when I go, it is on a Jewish pilgramage.
Then, on E. 27th St and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan there is a nice Hunan (Chinese) place called "Hunan K." I love "Venison Hunan Style." Or I did until a mate of mine, while dining with me said, "Where in NY are these motherfuc*ers going to find deer meat?"
Manhattan is probablly the place with the most diverse cuisine on the planet. Where else, outside of Nepal can you find not only Nepalese places, but REGIONAL Nepalese!?
I travel more than a bit, and love eating, but I think NY offers the best variety.
Price wise, the most expensive is perhaps 400 and change, US, that I pay every now and then when taking someone out to 21 Club in Manhattan. I should say that they can easily give a run to "Best Meal" as well but having to wear a tie and jacket always pisses me off (Israelis hate both).

Best != most expensive for me. Probably the best food I have ever had was in a small fondue restaurant off the beaten path in Amsterdam. I have a card with the name and address somewhere. The fondue was the traditional, oil style to cook the meats (chicken, steak, and fish) and traditional Swiss cheese for the cheese course.
Highly Americanized, overpriced chain fondue (but really fun still, with great drinks, and awesome for a date) can be found at the Melting Pot in most major cities of the US.
Fondue is great fun to do at home as well, though you need a fondue pot (look at thrift shops) or two to do it effectively.

Best - A meal I had at a very small, local restaurant. I've been there twice and it's AMAZING. There are only 35 seats in the entire restaurant so you absolutely have to make reservations. There is a mixologist, Sous Chef and one head Chef and the wait staff. That's it. I don't know HOW my area drew this guy to it but it's seriously our best kept secret. Unbelievably good. I don't remember entirely what was on the menu that night but I know I'll be back.

But I love all of the little rat hole Cuban restaurants you find in Miami hoods. If you ever come to Miami, it is worth going into the hood just to get a good Churrasco with chimi. Just don't go at night. Do it at lunch time.

but hidden spot ...mmmmmm... flanigans ribs in hialeah !!!! yes the hood but its always JAM packed and the ribs are always fresh and there potato skins are the BOMBB potato sliced in half loaded with cheese and bacon ! their rib special is full rack w drink curly fries and garlic bread for 25 buck good enough for 2 ... fukinnn yuummmmmmm

best meal ever was in NYC at Picholine. had the most amazing risotto with wild mushrooms and black truffle. tuna carpaccio with olive oil ice cream too for an ap, incredible place. very nice but very expensive, well worth the price for a special occasion.
go to a market and get fresh food. buy whats in season and good. do go looking for the best of what you need to make a certain dish, go find the best ingredients and create from there. find a good butcher in town, a good baker, and whoever slings fruits and veg in your area. find a good cheese shop.
buy buying the best ingredients and stuff on sale, take it home and hopefully you can whip something up with a few extras/staples.
if you network with the people who make the food, you get the best shit. and that tastes the best.

I don't know if this was the best, but it is one of my most memorable because I rarely get a chance to do it. Raw oysters that I dove and harvested myself. Also, shrimp that I went on a shrimp trawler and caught (been a while, but I think they were grilled). And stone crab that I caught later that night.
Another good one was bbq ribs from some obscure rib shack that nobody has probably ever heard of outside of Birmingham, Alabama. I rarely eat red meat, so this was really a treat.

The best meal in my entire life was undoubtedly the most expensive, too! I happen to be fortune enough to have an uncle who works for FOX who was able to seriously hook up my family with a (very large) gift certificate for Charlie Palmer's Steak at The Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas. I have been to some extremely nice restaurants—they all pale in comparison! Due to the fact that they knew my uncle from business lunches and whatnot, they also gave us a complimentary dessert platter. Also, I am a huge fan of creamy soups, and their mushroom soup was too delicious to even attempt to explain! They did things with that soup that I never dreamed possible—simply decadent in all they offer.
I ordered the filet mignon for the main course (this was a three course meal, and then some, haha). I am an avid carnivore by nature, and this was hands down the best filet mignon I have ever encountered. Probably because the beef was aged 28 days, and the fucking filet mignon alone (for one person) was $42. They also brought out several different sauces for the filet that were so delicious I cannot even begin to describe them either. My favourite was the peppercorn sauce; the blue cheese fondue sauce was a runner up!

It's hard to say what is the best thing I've ever eaten. But one that comes to mind is a crepe made with cheese, spinach, mushroom and sun dried tomatoes in SF off of folsom. I remember it was across from the DNA lounge. I'm not sure if that place is still open though. It has been a while.
