^^ Going to watch that one soon.

Just watched Mysterious Skin, had no idea what it was about. Good movie, sad though. Nice use of Sigur Ros in the end, really drives home how sad it is.

The acting in Mysterious Skin drove me mad, it was like they purposely tried to make it as corny and fake as they could...either that or it was just bad.

Anyone not find Inception particularly good or interesting?

There were some major plot holes that ruined it for me...

SPOILERS:
NSFW:

1. At the end of the movie you get the impression that Cobb and Ariadne are entering Limbo to save Fisher. However, they use a dream-machine to enter it which either suggests that they are just entering a 4th level dream or you can get to Limbo by entering a 4th level dream. You do not see Fisher get hooked up to this machine, you see them setting up the machine away from him, and when he wakes up he has no wires to remove. The characters themselves said Fischer is dead and they're going into limbo to get him back

1a. If you accept that the above is not actually Limbo and just a 4th level dream designed to look like Limbo (so Cobb could find his wife) that admittedly fills a lot of the plot holes (Why is Saito old when he 'dies' before Cobb?, how does Cobb end up washed up on that beach) There are still some major plot holes in the movie.

2. If you kill yourself in Limbo you wake back up. So why did Cobb and his wife not just do that as soon as they entered limbo? From the flash-backs they seemed aware they were in Limbo but couldn't leave. They aged (it shows you them aged in a flashback), and then later on in the film it shows Cobb and his wife killing themselves with the train and waking up (why are they young here!? makes no sense)

Am I missing something here?

It's certainly not worthy of the #3 position on imdb movies of all time (Pulp Fiction is #6!).

I have high hopes for Toy Story 3

I'm off to see Inception this evening. I'll click your NSFW thing tomorrow and see if I agree. :)

I've watched about 30 films over the past two months. I'll put up some of the best when I've more time.

This one sticks out the most

An unstable dad who after getting out of a mental institution tries to convince his daughter that there's Spanish gold buried somewhere under suburbia.

Michael Douglas is very good at playing a crazy person. Really heart warming story.

Fucking love Evan Rachel Wood, seen all her films since Thirteen. Good call on A Prophet aswell.

Inception is definately a head fuck, highly recommend watching the wonky version though, adds a whole new level of head fuckery to it :D.

Here are the two theories - it just seems like a total cop-out to me though. Basically 'Disregard all rules - drive into walls'

NSFW:
If the world with crumbling buildings is Cobb’s limbo, what is the place he ends up in with Saito?
A: Two different theories possible, let’s break them down one at a time:

Theory 1 The simplest answer here would be that this world isn’t actually limbo but a deeper level which perhaps Cobb has mistaken for limbo or misrepresented as limbo. You have to die to go to limbo and neither Cobb nor Ariadne dies in the ice fortress, they merely go to sleep again and enter Cobb's dream, which only resembles the world he and Mal built in limbo because Cobb has created it. (Their kids weren't with them in their original limbo, so if this were limbo again, why would they magically be there with them to live happily ever after?) Also, Cobb could have deliberately been planning how the whole level worked out - he used it to detach himself from Mal, create a projection of Fischer to compel Ariadne to get out and not go into limbo and stayed as the whole thing crumbled to get to the real limbo to help Saito. And maybe that's the reason Fischer can be revived. He wasn't really shot dead.

Theory 2 But since Ariadne tried to kill herself to escape it, and we know that killing yourself in any level but limbo will only send you to limbo, it seems as though Ariadne must have believed she was in limbo. If the crumbling city level really is a form of limbo, could that mean both Cobb and Saito in limbo, but in different limbos? If dreams are the machinations of the subconscious, and limbo is the subconscious that Cobb has built, the locations are one in the same. It’s the same reason why Cobb can no longer work as an architect. Perhaps Cobb and Saito’s final locations are the same place. If so, how does Cobb find Saito’s fortress? How does he end up on that beach? We’re full of questions on this one, but given the context of the movie this theory seems like the most likely of the two.

Whatever works is awesome - especially if you're a Larry David fan too :)

You cant go wrong with LD. =D

Interesting that someone mentioned "King Of California" here.

"Whatever Works" reminded me a lot of "About Schmidt" by the genius that is Alexander Payne.

Cant wait to see what Payne has lined up for us in the next year or so, he has 3 movies due for release. that he has either written or directed.
