So I have stopped taking drugs for the foreseeable future and am trying to look into other hobbies to fill the void it left which seems to be going quite well now once I got over the initial bump.
I stopped DJing a long time ago but have been getting back into music in general as a hobby (whereas before I wrote it off almost completely for many years) and am considering buying an mp3 deck so then I'll be able to DJ whatever style I like.
I will likely take drugs again in future but I want it to be from a place of adding to the party rather than it being my sole outlet- I realized recently I had pretty much no life and just relied on drugs so am gonna force myself to enjoy other things for a while.
I did get into gabber for a bit on my last stimulant phase and have been a dnb head since I was 16 (now 27), as well as happy hardcore (that was my speed era :D) though obvsiously apart form dnb they are not really conducive to being enjoyed without drugs (you can hark on about exceptions all you like but exceptions don't prove the rule
).
I think dnb will stay with me since it has so much depth (the good stuff at least) that it can be appreciated on all levels.
Most of the others just instill anxiety in me now I'm not on drugs and I just wanna distance myself from them as far as I can and write them from my dark history :D (melodramatic).
So what are some other genres which are slow that I could enjoy djing but still have some life in them? I really enjoy warp/rephlex records stuff as they are full of emotion while mostly being pretty laid back- aphex and ceephax being a couple of my favs.
Don't anyone dare say dubstep :D each their own but I've never been able to enjoy that stuff thinking it a weak hybrid of dnb and grime.
I have been into some oldskool acid and techno i.e early 90's stuff which is pretty cool. I think dnb is the one that will stay though.
As I said though since I don't have to pay for the music I can give whatever I like a whirl and see what takes my fancy.
So in general I want emotional (electronic) type stuff but nice and slow(ish i.e not going beyond 160 absolute max) to avoid the panic attacks I am prone to that is also good to mix at home as a rekindled hobby.
