Recent Trend

Seems people are noticing the dark side of psychedelic drug use more lately.

So whats going on?

I would say people post more about the "dark side" of psychedelics recently in PD... there were times around here when it was different, but it's wintertime - just wait for the summer and there will be more positive posts regarding psychs...

btw in my real life, i notice the opposite - seen quite a bit of acid recently... and just 2 days ago got some synthetic dmt, which is literally non existent around my area normally...

so like always it's just a matter of perspective ;)

Winter is loosening it's hold on NC...trees are already starting to flower. :D

There has always been a dark side to psychedelics, only because there is a dark side to the self, to the human experience. If used carefully, psychedelics can lead us closer to our true selves, but with the light comes the dark. The only path out out involves understanding and accepting ourselves more fully.

Quotations from a book I recently read called Demian:

"I wanted only to try to live in accord with the promptings which came from my true self. Why was that so very difficult?"

“We were aware or in the process of becoming aware and our striving was directed toward achieving a more and more complete state of awareness while the striving of the others was a quest aimed at binding their opinions, ideals, duties, their lives and fortunes more and more closely to those of the herd.”

"The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas."

... Hesse in his Jungian phase.

Carl Jung, in Seven Sermons to the Dead:

"There is a God about whom you know nothing, because men have forgotten him. We call him by his name: Abraxas. He is less definite than God or Devil...."

I heard that the amount of dead drug users in Denmark rose from 17 to 38 from one year to another. I blame all the tainted unpure research chemicals, bath salts, JWH overdoses and shit that's going on.

Wasn't aware there was a trend to the "dark side" of psyches, to be honest. Quite the opposite in the area I live - psyche use is rising and being more appreciated than it has been for years amongst "average" drus users that normally don't bother with 'em much.

I have noticed a (possible or more likely just imagined) increase in threads about the potential risks of psyches though. Even half-mused 'pon the possibility that some anti-drug group had started posting here cos there did seem to be a rise in posts bringing up hoary old scaremongering myths about permatripping, glasses of orange juice and the like. Pretty sure it wasn't anything remotely like that though - probably just a blip from a few noobs who got the more accurate info they needed and moved on if anything.

good shit. and yeah light only exists in the presence of darkness.

i was under the impression more and more deaths were appearing as a result of stimulant use not psychedelics...?

OP, i might say that as the online RC scene is ebbing and swelling to obscene proportions, there will appear to be increased accounts of negative experiences due to those unfortunate people who are overdosing on unknown compounds that are never meant to be consumed. the interwebs simply allows us to collaborate thousands of reports at one click.

on the other hand, i'm sure the actual "personal content" of psychedelic experiences will be heavily colored by the original "set, setting, dose", including those ideas that media-junkies have shoved down our throats. Tell people that the world will end in Dec 2012, and they might see it as truth. Tell people that unrest in the middle east is about to explode into an all-out nuclear war, and they might see it as truth. Just remember that the only things that really affect YOU are the people around you whom you personally love and trust and who return the love and trust back at you.

Could not agree more with this, some off the stuff I have read recently has been so stupid, like you said sham it's either it's an anti drug group or just really niaeve people talking about stuff they know nothing about!

Yea I think its either a misconception because you for some reason saw a non-representative sample of psychedelic usage report recently or it might have a slight basis from the steady increase in fancy research chemicals and the mixing of them.

died maybe not, but driven a car in an unsafe or passed-out manner such as to get police and media attention? definitely yes for SEVERAL states in the USA.

So yes I was pretty fucked up when I made this thread..

But am I the only one that has noticed more threads regarding people being distraught by mental side effects from their drug use?

It seems like these things ebb and flow..infectious ideas on the internet maybe?

There's no conspiracy here. Psychedelics are neutral. They have a basic function. We're just wobblin' back and forth between what seems to be enlightenment and what seems to be danger and delusion. But it's all the same thing.
