recent graduates, what do you like less: real life or school

Every summer I get a taste of the real world... and it's hard to say, but I think school sucks a little bit more than real life. The only real good thing about school is getting to stay fucked up for weeks at a time with no reprecussions outside of melted organs and okay grades (vs excellent). This comes at a price of feeling worthless all the time, though. At least with work I don't even have time to feel like shit and want to stay doped up, and there's money coming in, which is almost unbelievable! Thoughts?
 
real life is better... the best part is no homework/ papers... ugh papers .... plus no night classes so you get nights and weekends off :) and the money is definitely a bonus plus its sweet to just get to fuck around on the weekends and not have to think about schoolwork at all. graduating is definilty not the worst thing to ever happen.
 
I think school sucks because of the endless "preparation" and learning of basics...it gets old. The real world sucks too because you have way more responsibility. In the end though, I'm going to be happy to finish schooling/training. By the way, I won't be done for another 10 years (and I already have a Bachelor's!) I will be studying/learning for the rest of my life, which I am down with. I'd much rather be a little stressed out and learning, than always relaxed but stagnant. Plus in the real world, you are more focused, and are working directly with people solving actual problems. For me this is way easier than writing papers or solving physics problems.

Real world is better than academia anyway... except for less p00n. Real world responsibilities are more linear.
 
I thought I was free of school but now its looking like a lifetime contract. lol
 
I definitely like real life better. Being from age 22 until you get married seems like its basically the same thing as college, except you can substitute a little free time for a lot of money.

my 2 cents, although I am not quite at real life yet (basing this on summers where i work a real job, vs college where i am poor)

maybe you should have paid more attention in school then...

im young, and will probably change my mind at some point... but for now, theres no place id rather be than in school on mommy and daddy's dime. i can sacrifice tons of disposible income for the security of knowing i dont have to worry about a place to live or food to eat or car troubles, etc.
 
I don't know about the real world, I only know I despie (my) school. Can't wait to get out.

I agree.. I vote for the third option.
 
In my case.. be incredibly lucky to have chosen to be a complete slacker loser who ended up through random slacker choices to see the start of a new multi million dollar market that demanded the skillset I happened to have at the time through more random slacker choices.

In other words, be in the right place at the right time and live by the following proverb.

"Opportunity favors a prepared mind."
 
I'll be done in December and can't fucking wait...

I've been working and going to school for years now. At the start of next year, I'll be just working, making way more money, and have not as much to worry about in general I hope. There is still that damn CPA exam though :(
 
I just worked my first shift in what I would call my first "real job" after college and it was super fun..kinda stressful too. Of course this job is actually preparation for graduate school, so I'm not out of the classroom yet.

I find that I get burnt out with school after about 4-5 months straight...so the latter half of the year sucks way more than the first half. My brain reaches a "full" point after which cramming in additional facts becomes increasingly difficult. Usually "spring break" is not long enough to recharge.
 
I just graduated high school and honestly I miss school.

I miss the sports that I played and the people adn sports I which became my life

Now I get fucked up out of my mind nearly every day. In fact I think its safe to say from may 28th until last friday I suffered only fleeting moments of sobriety. I've spent over 500$ in the past two weeks.

But now I think I have to get my shit together and it sucks, but not too bad.

I think its safe to say I'd rather be in high school again

but i cant say until i ride things out, see where things go

I'm still working on my degree but I'll take school over real life any day.
I first did one year of uni, then dropped out got a job, worked 8-5 monday-friday. I swear every single day felt almost the same. After learning the in's and outs of my job it got real old really fast. But i switched from job to job for about 2 years...

I went back to uni in the fall of 06. I instantly realized how much I like school. I like my major (TV and Digital Film) and i just love learning stuff. Reading, writing, getting submerged in my work. Plus all the like-minded people (plus alot of douche bags :\ ). But i'd rather be expanding my mind and possibilities than wasting my life one day at a time.
I like protovack's use of 'stagnant' because that exactly how i felt working a menial pointless job.
Not to say there aren't all sorts of menial jobs, but the odds are against you without a degree.

i have my bachelors and am currently saving money to go back for my doctorate. i can't wait to kiss the "real world" goodbye. work is a grind, at least in college you are surrounded by young, good looking women. the consequences of fucking around are much less severe, as well.
