Reason(s) for rave club shutting down

Perth hasn't had ANY new decent flips come round this entire year, it really sucks and you can see the difference at our main rave club.

The weekend a good pill hits our state again will be a good night for the club. I know I'll be there :p

The only people who really go there now (when there aren't any decent headliners etc) are regular chumps who just want to get 'fucked up'.

PsiloSubNaut, there is still PLUR around..

I'm a kandi raver (-^_^-)... And live every day by plur..

Sometimes it just takes a bit of looking to find plur in a club enviroment.. But its there..

But the lack of MDMA has made me consider straight raving... 2 weekends straight so far.. Lets see if I'll make it a third.. Or I give in and eat that mystery cap that's been sitting in my room for a month...

But anyhow back on topic..

Bring back MDMA, Bring back PLUR and bring back the old school days of Mayhem raves and the Arena/RNA days.. (Even though the RNA don't like 'Our kind'...)

I think you guys need to get better tastes in music :P

I go out quite often in Melbourne and always have awesome nights, but I mainly go to techno, minimal and dubstep parties and the occasional doof and these are always going off. Maybe the crowd isn't quite as loved up as 5 years ago but I haven't seen any aggro at any of the club nights or warehouse parties I go to.

I haven't been to clubs for years now, i did initially when i was younger.. but these days it's mainly Doofs. It's my equivalent to catching up with friends for a few drinks, but out in the bush around fires :D

Hahaha yep, the commercial electro/house I hear at festivals just flatout sounds shit to me but god damnnnn they draw an insane amount of hotties....unfortunately, the shirtless/fluro metro douchebags are also there in droves.

The decline in local rave clubs can definately be attributed to the amount of festivals, harsher nightlife liscences/laws and lack of MDMA. Perth hasn't had ANY new decent flips come round this entire year, it really sucks and you can see the difference at our main rave club.

I love the music at those festivals though, and since I'm usually with a group of my closest friends, it's always a good atmosphere.
The chicks that go are sooo fking hot as well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't join up at the gym to start pulling them at the festivals %)

For those Radelaiders, what about Synergy, Traffic, Black cat ( went it was a rave club), Soda room, Dreamers, Rush at the Tivoli, La Rox, and not to mention our Fav recovery club Rise and our awesome outdoor raves have all come and gone......not to mention the warehouse raves at port adelaide and the carpark raves in the CBD. The true rave scene in Oz has come and gone.....make way for the big festivals and comercialised electronica and wanna be raver's who attend these events not for the DJ's or music or PLUR but to be seen. I've been part of this scene since the early 90's and have seen it slowly deteriorate over the last 10 years. Such a shame that the newbs don't get to experience it....
I only go to an event to see a DJ's set who I love and not for the sake of it or to be seen.

fair enough. but just don't take it too far and get on the roids. Take your shirt off 24/7 and combine bodybuilding poses with a lame attempt to shuffle.

And be a cunt who won't move out of your way when you say 'excuse me'.

Honestly, if I ever put my muay thai into practice, its going to be on one of the those steroided aggro fucks at summerdayze. BOOM! knee and elbow to the face - YES MY FRIENDS, PLUR IS DEAD FOR ME.

Oh man sorry to hear that, you really missed out. Some of the Advenjah events were insane!!!! Public enemy at a Rave? Showground Rides? OMFG good times! Not to mention the sweaty nights at the Arena with the old system 6, time tunnel, dark side, etc gigs. Going out in the valley now, times have certainly changed :(

the promoter of adventjah was shady, and they had show rides back in the early 90's at out door parties, which were just as big... Strawberry Fields if anyone can remember...

I think what my point is that the scene goes in cycles, I feel it died in brisbane around the late 90's/early 000s, which it did to an extent, there were a few years when all of the good clubs got shut down, then a few years later another cycle begins and it kicks off again

I think what happens is that people grow up and grow tired of the scene, there's only so many pills and powders you can ingest, clubbing 5 nights a week grows old fast, and people either mess up completely and become mentally ill homeless messes, or get on with life and have fond memories :)

Most electronic music / scene / rave forums have had a thread or two like this one this year. I've been in to the music and scene for nearly 10 years and while there has always been the odd complaint of how it was better back in the day, I have never seen every forum and so many people all agreeing that its gone to shit.

I think the primary reason is not the lack of quality gear, its the commercialisation of electronic music and the huge festivals this created. At some point in the last few years the big promoters stopped giving a fuck about putting on a good show and became only interested in putting enough effort in to the marketing and hype before hand in order to sell a heap of tickets and make money. Mellen events, I am pointing the finger at you. This has become more evident than ever with the inclusion of mainstream ROCK bands and now RnB at what used to be electronic festivals. The promoters have realised that putting a bigger range of genres together will attract even more suckers who pay 100+ just to see there one favourite act.

As others have said the huge festivals have killed off many regular local club nights.

I think that the lack of good gear has made for a really bad vibe at a lot of events. It seems that there are a lot of dick heads that like most types of electronic music, its just that before they were well behaved, nice and friendly due to MDMA, now too many of them are rude, arrogant assholes that make me not want to go out.

Interesting you should mention this. I had a conversation recently with another bluelighter as we were at one of these commercial mega-festivals with cheesy electro, millions of muzzas and orange people. He astutely noted that the average 500 person doof had better lighting, effects, decore etc than this 15,000 person festival. "People going two days early to camp, climbing mountains to set up lasers, etc" at doofs whereas festivals it's all about doing as little as necessary to sell a lot of tickets and $10 mid strength drinks....

If discussion can't centre around the topic this thread will be closed.

In this instance, you may speak of factors other than drugs that you think may be responsible for the "demise" of the rave/club industry, but keep it seemly.

i don't recall any sydney'ers commenting about their rave scene up there and wahts happening over there, So If any sydney BL'er would like to comment that would be nice :)
