I for one know that I hardly bother going out to clubs anymore since the massive decline in decent googs. So I'm sure there are alot of people who are the same.
In melbourne, the more popular bars are (and the ones that make the most money) are the ones that catter to the electro crowd. Many of them do do drugs, but there are also plenty who go to try and pick up or get their drink on. If anything these clubs may do better business, because more people are buying drinks.
i don't really bother with events in the city anymore either (speed just doesn'ct cut it compared to MDMA). I used to party at the big rave clubs when I was like 19 (everyone in melbs will know the ones I'm talking about). But lets face it, the music there was always kind of shit. When hardstyle got big, it got even shitter. So now you have these clubs, which were mainly only popular with people who wanted to get fucked up, with an extreme lack of pills. That was the main reason anyone went. sure the more hardcore elements will still be on the G and Ice (which is too expensive for most people though). But that will only lead to a further nasty agressive element (and these clubs often had this in the first place).
clubs come and go. And I am afraid hardstyle and hardtrance are going out of fashion fast. It seems to be electro-house is by far the biggest genre. Psytrance has certainly died abit, but doofs will continue on due to their unique crowd and the unique experience they offer, and because LSD is still in good supply (though I am getting a little over the strong emphasis on prog and minimal).
Events are becoming huge, and venues have to compete with huge events popping up monthly in melbourne (weekly in summer). For most people, it makes sense just to save up for an event, where they are guaranteed good music, big crowds, and maybe save enough money for a gram of speed or coke.
So yeah, electro will go strong. the rest are dying out.
