Real raves (for clarification in the USA "rave" refers to giant commerical shitfests)

Hey Ghostface, Thank fuck you just owned up! (Re: the origins of Acid)

Before getting into long and painful debates, a wee google might of been worth while to save you from looking like a simpleton.

I can offer better advice than that, there is a channel 4 documentary about the story of house music (from a British perspective) called Pump Up The Volume, it is superb and will put a massive smile on your face throughout.
The soundtrack is top notch. I've got it on my iPod and I've watched it scores of times. Its up on youtube and google video.
Fair play to Ghostface though for swallowing his pride and backing down off the back of a pretty vigorous discussion, that isn't something that comes easy to a lot of people.

The PLUR prevailed.

What's the betting fursty has 'been on here before'? Sounds like a lot of beef to have accumulated in a very short time.

erm didnt you know acid house was invented in Bombay in 1982 (5 years before Acid trax) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUqnPYwoiF4

durr

DAMN! I never knew people where already making this kind of music in 1982! This is awesome, it still sounds really really good. Damn I didn't know an Indian pioneered this kind of music (I half Indian myself, even though I grew up in Eastern Europe).

I still want to know what the "passing other peoples mixes off as your own" patter is all about from this fursty idiot? You cannae just make up a lie about me, call me "fucknut" then do a bolt without explaining yourself.
Yeah, yer shady cunt. Posting other people's shit and claiming credit.

You should be ashamed.

Stabbable offense in my opinion.

I don't want to generalise because it wouldn't be fair, but most of the Americans I've met seem to have a completely different idea of what a rave is or should be, when I brought some to parties around London, be it massive psytrance events at SE1 or dodgy squat raves in Hackney, they never seemed to appreciate the athmosphere, saying that it was too dirty and full of the wrong people, I mean even Fabric or Turnmills weren't commercial enough for them.

It seems a lot of Americans think a rave should be packed with 17-20 year olds, well dressed and trendy waving glowsticks around high on some overpriced pills they bought with mommy's weekly allowance, while some top commmercial shite dj like Tiesto is playing.

I always laughed when yanks said Tiesto was the ultimate rave act, lol yeah right...

I've only read a few pages but intend to read the rest of this thread. Just wanted to add my 2 cents first. It honestly seems like the name of this thread should be changed to "Hating on America".

All some of you want to do is talk about how much better the European scene is than the American scene. I even saw a post that started with the preface "I don't want to seem elitist but... (insert aforementioned elitist comment here)". I get that you guys are proud about your scene and all, but there's a way to convey that without mocking other scenes.

I've been to many events in the US that were fun, and many that sucked. I've also been to plenty in Europe that were fun and plenty that sucked. Each and every event is different, and I get that it's hard not to compare each one to past ones you've been to. But most of you have probably never been to ANY American events and you take one look at the EDC video posted on page 2 and decide you have seen enough to say "a lot of Americans think a rave should be packed with 17-20 year olds, well dressed and trendy waving glowsticks around high on some overpriced pills they bought with mommy's weekly allowance, while some top commmercial shite dj like Tiesto is playing." is just a ridiculously judgmental statement.

You're right. Except that the people in question were extremely badly dressed. Apart from that I genuinely agree with you.

EDC is hardly an example of real "rave". Most commercial socal events are okay, but hardly anything to brag about. Way too many posers, overly commercial music and too much focus on being trendy or whatever. I'd say the best parties in the states tend to be pretty underground and not full of ignorant suburban trash that populates 95% of America.

Parties like this one:

Most large events like EDC (I haven't been to EDC myself, but I've been to other socal events) tend to have a annoying quasi-hipster atmosphere. Just too many random people who are only into things that are trendy and don't really give a shit about the music.

Atmosphere looks great, shame about the DJ :)
