Real Pain patient looking for better ER Opioid, help me out if you can

Wondering if anyone has experience with just using short acting medications to treat pain? Example: six 15mg Roxycotin taken 3-4 times a day all of the orally. I would think they have a long enough half-life to last 4 hours each dose.

Opinions?

^ I think that it is a bad idea, especially for someone that had a problem abusing their pain meds. Even with their half-life, they will start to wear off faster and faster as your tolerance builds.

A lot of people mentioned methadone. What are your thoughts on that?

Ya, but he's abusing his meds too.
Methadone cuases too much CNS depression, OVER the euphoriant factor.

To OP: you should look into adding some skeletan relaxants or even something like neurontin into the mix.

methadone has been one of my top thoughts. i was just concerned i would be taking to high of a dose and it would eliminate any possibility for break through medication. i know come late after noon and when i first wake up i am in need of something to take away to screw driver in my spine

i switched from nerontin to Lyrica when i maxed out on the N and it became hard to eat anything. im on baclofen now. helps alot but only take it at night due to the drowsiness factor

Ya I was going to suggest baclofen. That stuff makes me so nausious though.

Methadone is very good for pain, because you can actually stay awake on it, it lasts so long, and it's very cheap.
You will certainly have issues with breakthroughs though, but if you keep your methadone dosing on cue, and don't up it out of wanting to get high, you might actually benefit nicely from it.

-edit: You're obviously in some serious pain. Why do you even try to get a nod off shit when what's most important is that you don't feel your back?

Oh it’s a long list of reasons... mainly frustration i guess? you get to a point where even after taking your medication exactly as prescribed for months and pain is still there you get frustrated with the pain and life overall and wonder all about the why me, how am I going to live the rest of my life like this crap. I was bed ridden for 4 months. All my "outs" like boxing, running, kayaking, and camping I did before the crash are all out of reach for the most part now. And with nothing to do and the outlook on life not looking so hot you turn to the pills. I guess it’s that in a nut shell. granted I have some addiction traits like cigarette smoking and I like to smoke marijuana often, but I was able to play with all sorts of drugs when I was a kid and feared addiction and never got anywhere near it other than nicotine. Now after the accident pain makes you do many thing you swore you would never think of doing.

Well,
Could you try getting off the opioids again? You said that you stopped for 4 days and were in too much pain, but you have to consider how much of that was withdrawals. Back pain is very common with opioid withdrawal, so it would be hard for you to tell if you were feeling pain from withdrawal, or because of your back condition.anyway thank you everyone for sharing useful.

4 months man....

I was in a terrible accident not long ago at all. I know exactly what you're talking about. MXE might get you out of your funk.

Thankfully I'm not bed ridden, and have actually fully recovered. Most people forget I was even in an accident. My back still twitches some, but that's going away. Try some CB2 strains of bud or synthetic cannabinoids too, aka "couch lockers".

I'm bed ridden ATM. The best relief from opioids I got was 75 mcg ph Fentynal patches and ir oxycodone 60mg per day but the govt in the uk has decided oxy is too expensive even generics and I had a severe allergic reaction to the fent patches I coped with it for 6 months but couldn't tolerate the scars it was producing. That was a very rare reaction though and it brought my pain down to a 7 so I'd recommend if your dr will script it.
