Well I shot up some dope just a matter of minutes ago and I had this huge reaction happen. I know for sure I did not miss. I for one felt the shot but also made sure it was registered by drawing back the plunger in the beginning, middle and after the syringe was empty of that beautiful fluid. I have had a small scale real local reaction like this before. Its mainly itchy and swells up a bit. It extends well beyond the injection sight.

I have included pictures so you can see what I am talking about. Has anyone had this happen to them before and know how to avoid this reaction from IV'ing. It goes away in time maybe over an hour but the soreness stays til the following day. Just looking for some advice.
BTW the white part is the reaction areas it stretches from the bendof my elbow to my wrist/hand

You can try taking an antihistamine to help since this may be an issue of the histamine release caused by opiates.

Yea, this looks like a histamine reaction to the cut in your dope, the dope itself or an interaction between the two. This has happened to me before. If it doesn't go away in like 30 minutes to an hour and a half max, you probably need to seek professional medical help. If it's only a histamine reaction, and you take an anti-histamine as TB suggests above, I don't see why you wouldn't be fine.

This happened to me a couple times when I used to bang. I am convinced it had to do with the cut in the dope I had, because after switching suppliers, in an attempt to best assure myself I was getting different dope with different cut, it was never an issue I encountered again.

Let us know how it goes companero!

you're fine. it is indeed, as the other posters suggested, due to histamine release. this happens to me when i shoot substances with higher histamine interaction such as dilaudid, or more so morphine. it's basically a giant "hive." taking an otc anti-histamine, such as banadryl will most definitely help but may not remedy it completely. another upside to this approach is that it will potentiate your opiate high. putting a cool compress on your arm will take away some of the itching and pain, but won't totally eliminate it. milk of magnesia put on the affected area works great too. anyway, if you have the resources to switch where you're getting your dope, you may want to give it a shot to see if you can find a supply which won't cause such an intense reaction. hope this helps some :)

Yep, happens to me, too, depending where I get my dope. I just take a couple of benadryl 20 minutes or so before I iv. I've found that a hot compress helps relieve the itching.

That's a pretty big reaction to say you never missed, but it's pretty common. Used to happen to me all the time, usually when I was shooting into small veins and I was a tad too quick on the plunger, pushing in faster than the blood flow could cope with to carry the shot away. Can cause a lot of leakage back under the skin going too fast. That sound at all like what you just did?
