Sitting here with my jug of coco pops, listening to dj shadows ‘building sand with a grain of salt’, I am going to try to recount the last 7 hours of my life. I am a designer, I draw stuff; I am not a writer, but I’m going to try. I don’t know why I was so drawn to sonar, I knew I had to go but I didn’t know why. Yeah I wanted to see nu-breed because I heard they are awesome, and yesi wanted to catch up with aaron smiles, who I hadn’t seen for ages, and yeah I needed a night out. But for some reason there was no way I was missing sonar. I went about my night normally, doing some uni work with a few cokes and Vs. Then I got up and went to sonar. I didn’t plan on a big night, I didn’t feel like I could last more than a few hours, so after my cough syrup stuff I downed a couple of dexy’s to keep me goin. I rocked down to rosati’s, and was lovin it straight away, ozzie was playin some nice tracks, and the vibe was awesome. I had a dance, walked around, and found a whole lot of friends I didn’t even know were goin. Half a genie was dropped in my hand, and soon pockets was rocking the place. I was alternating between dancing, sitting on my ass and running round looking for orbitus. Nu breed came on and life was good. They grabbed the crowd by the throat and would not let go. They had the dancefloor at their hands. From here it just got better. They played welcome, it rocked, they pitched up till my ears were gunna explode, I loved it. I finally met up with orbitus. Aaron smiles came on, I loved it. Every track was exactly what I was feeling like. People were asking me what the fuck I had taken. I scored a free cd; there was a dude playin congo’s all night. Phil k came on, he rocked. As I sat against the wall I was given chocolate coated strawberries, phil dropped ‘you can run but you can’t hide’ with such a high pitch my ears nearly bled, then skydive, he achieved what many thought impossible, he got Randomblondeboy to dance at a cruisey pace. I was standing in the middle of the dancefloor, the laser was brushing my hair, coming across my face and forcing my head into two hemispheres, it pinpointed right on my chest. I swear it was focused just on me. The congos were still going. I was offered a cold face washer. Phil stopped, and said he would paly one more track, then we were goin upstairs to chill. I went upstairs, there were mattresses, more awesome tunes, oj, grapes, and light. I lay down and had random chats and loved it. I realized this had been the best night of my life. Ever. I had just heard some of the best music in my life, and not an international to be seen. I had just had the most awesome time, and I wasn’t even that fucked up.
And now, across Australia, 19 million people are waking up to their Saturdays. Some will mow the lawn, some will go to the football.
I don’t know what I’m going to do today. But I know that I’m going to go about it a whole lot differently.
‘Got a place for watching that will paint pictures and colour lights.'
and that is why i rave.
