Raves; what's your opinion?

Depends where you live I guess.

I find all-ages raves pretty seedy and shit, I don't like seeing 14 year olds fucked out of their minds running around on ecstasy. People shoving vicks in your face, security that are equally as fucked up. Paying rediculous amounts of money for a bottle of water. I used to go to some raves, generally had a fair bit of fun (thanks to MDMA). But overall it's not my scene.
 
No more night parties are legal, so i think the rave scene has died... That said i was told that when i started raving in 2002, by the older ones... I think I got to see the last of it, but these day festivals that are on now may be attracting the crowds but the dance scene has become way too pretentious in my opinion. I will still go to see a good dj, but new kids are more interested in their clothes and pills (that dont have any mdma, all pips etc) than who is playing. Also I lik dnb/breaks and its mainly mainstream electro now. Miss watching the sunrise munted after dancing all night too - OP I managed to rave every weekend, work and study...
 
Honestly, If your over them then just dont go. I dont understand how you can talk down on the people who go to raves when you said you spent pretty much 3 years of your life at them. Shur I can totally understand that you hate them now and are not into the people anymore but why talk to shit about them. Generalizing people and judging them is never good. Not everyone who attends raves are like the people you know.
 
i've been raving for about 5 years, and sure i rave a lot less nowdays... but lets make this clear... for me.. a rave isn't something you pay to go to, its free, its illegal, in an abandoned wharehouse, or in the forest/fields in the middle of nowhere... and there is no security...

i enjoy the occasional rave, getting fucked off my face laughing with friends and talking to a load of random people...

sure there are things wrong with the rave scene... but all "scenes" have their positive and negatives...

i understand you've had your fair share of raves, maybe taking a break for a while will make it more of a fun event if you do decide to go back to a real rave
 
I'm not sure it would be my thing. I went to a house rave and it was eh eh. I don't like huge crowds and too many bright colors, even if I am rolling.
 
OP, don't blame the rave scene for your own stupidity. Apparently you've taken too much E and now you're frustrated that you fucked up things in your life. Sorry to hear that most of your "brainsells" are gone, but stop pretending that this is anybody's fault but your own. 8)

Of course a rave is a "fake world", but what's wrong with that? Isn't that the great thing about raves, that you're able to escape from the "real world" at least for one night?

"huge toilet", "nasty", "scum", "turds" - Grow up and stop insulting people that can actually enjoy themselves without fucking up their lives.

Although, I do like spinach.

People have to take responsibility for their actions. While I was raving I got almost straight A's and completed my bachelors degree.

Now I have a 'real' job and still rave from time to time. But then again I'm also a big dancer, and that's why I like to go.

The scene is what you make it. If you've made it into a cesspool for yourself you can't really blame others.

always some rave with great djs playing

lately though, they seem more like drug fests than music fests hah

I decided to experiment once and so I asked 20 random people throughout the night if they knew who was playing

only two people were able to respond - they both knew Armin van Buuren! lol

regardless though, what does it matter??

go there with friends, listen to the music, you'll have a great time

Raves like Monter Massive and TAO are now all about the drugs, and its evident as people still go to them even though the line up is complete twaddle.
 
Trance, house and Happy Hardcore are all just awful forms of music to be honest. Unfortunately they're grouped in the electronic genre with some of the best music I've ever heard, IDM. Who can listen to trance when driving or meditating? I can go in to a trance when I have some really deep, emotional IDM playing. For fuck sake at the very least give me some DNB to get my rocks off to.

Raves these days are like all the goth kids from highschool, now 22-25ish, still with no jobs fighting the system, all getting fucked up together. I just go to them whenever I need some drugs.

The better raves (which attract less freaks) are usually playing Dubstep these days it seems.
 
I'm 22 now and haven't been to a rave in about a year, no particular reason, life and priorities just change. I have to say though, raving brought me out of an enormous depression, and helped me heal from a lot of issues in my past. I know, it's weird but it's the truth. I agree with the guy who said he doesn't like spinach lol. It's easy to want to blame anything but yourself when you are angry at the past (been there).
 
I used to love raving and still somewhat do but all because I liked a music and arists, not so much the people. I have a blast just hanging with my friend but most of the people there a either toughies who wanna fight, undrrage kids who think they are so cool for getting in or just people that must have a sad lie(E.g the lads who go round harrasing people and looking like theyre agry every second of their lie...how fun ay???


Its better to just stick around your friends or people who seem nice enough.

Raves stole nothing from you, all you did was give yourself to them. You can't blame raves for anything, they are just a gathering. When you go to a rave you don't have to buy drugs, do drugs, dance, or get involved with strangers. You made your choices and you ended up facing the consequences of those choices. You made raving and being raver your life by your own doing, the rave did not force you. You also made the rave a "playground for emotionally fucked up people" for yourself because that's what you had in your head therefore you will end up seeing it that way. I'm sure there were others who saw the rave as paradise and still do.

I think raves are great. The scene isn't what is used to be but if you have the right group of friends and you manage to find a decent gathering you can have a blast. The music, the lights, the dancing, the energy... I plan on bringing my girlfriend, my friend, and his girlfriend to a rave this summer so they can experience what I have told them stories about.
 
im eighteen and im going to a forty hour rave in Toronto with 70 Djs ( my first time) im doing MDMA with this girl and we are getting a Hotel....im sure it will be amazing!

Awesome... just dont do mdma the whole time lol. Maybe throw some acid in the mix?
 
im only going for one day im only going to be doing MDMA and maybe drinking i would love to Kandy flip, but im afraid that might effect my ability to have great MDMA sex when the girl and i R done raving.
 
I love raves. Absolutely love them.

That's my scene, straight up.

Doesn't matter how fucked up shit gets in there, as long as I'm not involved I really don't care - not sure if that's a good attitude or what, but hey, I came there to have an amazing time and that's exactly what I'll fuckin do! lol
