It's a caring thing innit. From the moment we're born as vulnerable scraps of screaming, shitty flesh and soul a mother is programmed to care (mostly). Looking after our elders and sick is something us humans do, though I guess not everyone is great at that - it feels like there's an internal drive to do so though. I have much admiration for the people who try to do it professionally - it can't be easy, especially in today's society where the notion of care has gone a bit topsy turvy and money has come into the equation...That and culturally where care has become something that we want to pan off to others - as it's not seen as a "good" thing to do (as in leave it to professionals whether they be nannies, childminders, home-helps, medical & hospice personnel etc)

I cared for both my parents as they were dying of cancer at home with the help of Macmillen nurses, and I'm glad I done so and made sure both of them had as easy a time as possible. Which meant insisting on morphine, syringe drives etc. This arrangement gave us all our "place" and made my role as carer and their role as the peeps on the way out smoother. Easier is the wrong word to describe the experience tho'....

That is so kind and admirable of you. I totally see where you're coming from with us as a society expecting to pawn off our responsibilities on others. It might be a bit sexist, but I have found women so much more caring than men. That might be something to do with brains, and something to do with conditioning, I don't know. I think, although it would be painful to see, I would be able to look after my parents if they had cancer. It's just the losing their minds that I couldn't stand because they wouldn't be them most of the time. I imagine you get great comfort from getting to spend so much of their last time with them, repaying them for everything they did for you over the years(I hope that makes sense)?

Money has totally buggered caring professions like nursing and we find ourselves in a position where most nurses deserve more money, but some nurses are blatantly there to get paid and don't care about patients. I am not sure how programmed we are to care for the elderly, given that they are a relatively new phenomenon in the numbers they now exist in.

I could murder a cuppa but I'm nil by mouth :(

Good luck with your new job eff! The first few weeks are always the best in my opinion :D

A few weeks ago you may remember I posted saing my dad had gone AWOL and no one knew where he was, then he called my sister after a couple of week to say he'd went to Borneo. Just had an email from him (after 6 weeks of no contact), apparently he's just spent 3 weeks living in a village in Thailand with the locals. The same Thailand that I am in...but he neve thought to mention it. Weirdo, fucking weirdo! :! :X :! :X

autotuned RnB... urgh. disgrace to music. yeah off to work in a min. this is late for me, was getting up at 5:20am every morning for years, stupid early morning shift. thank god im not on that anymore

Though I probably need to do something about the stench of weed that follows me round everywhere too. I could just buy Febreze in bulk or something.

Which is a bit hypocritical of me, seeing as I hang around here most of the day. I think that's why I became a mod - I can be on BL and still be 'working' even when I'm just chatting bollocks.
