^+1 to shambles, and np ypdh, even f i dont agree with what your saying theres nowt like an interesting debate to kill time on the internet since i've run outta k :)

yup opening it would be the right thing to do.

heavy handed restriction of thought will inevitably spring a leak everywhere else, generally not a good thing. giving it some space but containing it usually works tho

Polka: Ya don't need to know exactly what I meant in the "hornet's nest" sentences cos it's non-contentious. It simply means "religion as a topic causes a shitstorm on all sides". As you well know - I ain't that poetic ;)

Or maybe I am. Dunno. But I do know that if I had impassioned beliefs on a subject I'd at least attempt to express them more clearly even if it meant dull textform.

Thread needs opening with or without you cos it's a topic many of us are passionate about in our own way. Poetic or otherwise. Sarcasm or otherwise too.

PS: I don't provide verses to back up what I'm saying cos it depends on which translation of said verses you go by. Bit of a lottery, no? ;)

PPS: It won't get you in trouble at all - not you starting the debate here. I'll happily be infracted to hell and back if that's your only concern.

W Shambles x Its all yours... just use NIV or King James

Really want these.. Ive got a knee length navy dress with a tiny daisy pattern on it. These
would look really cool with it.

Dont know if theyre a bit mutton or not???

do you think so? I dont know whats in style for shoes atm shambles.. Im not a bigshoe person..
I just think those boots are funky.. love the navy too :).

W Shambles x Its all yours... just use NIV or King James

Why? What makes those translations better than any other? King James is mostly propagandised to all fuck and back. Dunno about NIV cos I've never heard of it. How about the original Hebrew? And Aramaic? And Greek? Note that none are English which makes discussion of the finer points of the whole thing somewhat irrelevant seeing as that's the language most of us speak in EADDland. Translations are open to interpretation, no? The unicorn/rhino thing mentioned earlier is but a trivial example thereof. So how the fuck does any English-speaking person have the gall to quote chapter and verse of summat they have little or no understanding of in the original form?

I mean that far less aggressively than I typed it too. Got lost in translation ;)

PS: Bigshoes are both big and clever. Not so big on navy as a colour but each to their own :)

use the original then.. Theres a Strongs on Bible Gateway... could complicate my 'apologetics' further though.

Personally, I'm happy with the translations. The holy spirit gets His message across..

Sometimes I like to look at strongs too.

There is no single universally accepted Bible translation cos it was never codified in its original form. That only came 400 years after the supposed fact and even then only for purely political (at the time) reasons.

How can anyone be happy with the manifold (frequently contradictory) translations when they... well... contradict. And leave out entire books that were at least as (frequently more so) popularly accepted as "Truth" by Christians living at the time? You can hardly ask me to provide chapter and verse when there's no agreed version of either and never has been.

It's one thing that the Muslims at least have a valid point on. Almost. Aside from the debate over whether certain parts where but misty memories of a possible prophet. But, to be fair, at least we all know for sure that particular prophet existed. Baby Jeebuz is far less well documented... in fact isn't documented at all... Outside of the Bible (in all its many forms). Notwithstanding the historical characters therein who definitely did exist but make no mention of any of it.

PS: Just had a look at that Biblios linky - rather a lot of "not represented in English" to be worth discussing really ;)

The teachings of christ were passed on orally .. The Jews had a strong oral tradition..The epistles of John, Paul, Peter, Jude , and James were all extant too.

Shambles .. I dont know if youve ever debated with Orthodox Christians at all. They are incredibly pedantic.. Sticklers for precision and tradition. almost pharasaically so.
The early church was of this ilk and faithfully preserved the original teachings of Christ by His spirit. Rememberthe original church were a gang of friends and family.. they knew Him well.

This is my Faith.. The Spirit , the Word and the authentic church.

You dont have to use verses.. but if you are intent on debating theology ( You seem very
interested ) then Id give it a go otherwise youre going to be paraprhasing the bible.

Precision and tradition are one thing... but given the incendiary nature of some of the vile bullshit espoused in certain Biblical translations it matters more than it should.

The spirit is all well and wishy-washy if you like that kinda thang. But to take such vagueries and then start talking about fags, rape, racism, eternal damnation and so on off the back of it rather buggers that argument. You can't be absolute about such statements - poetical or otherwise - unless you can back it up with more than politicised translations mostly intended to annoy Catholics. The message is muddy. Firm and solid (and offensive to many) pronouncements based thereon are equally as muddy and require more meat on the bones to be anything other than ignorant at best.

Also, I'd still like answers to the questions I posed earlier in this 'ere spillover thread: free will, deity-based incest/self-sacrifice sans point or reason and so on.

PPS: If Jesus existed and passed on teachings orally he did a shitty job. Would've thought an omniscient deity could've had a better stab at it really :\

PPPS: I'm paraphrasing the Bible cos there is no fuckin' Bible - that's the point I was making ;)

I can see people were offended. I'll make sure I am very clear on my views re these particular subjects in future.

Let it lie now ay.

Im content that regardless of my muddy, ignorant witness God will achieve what He wills through me :D

Didnt see those questions Shambles. I'll do my best to answer them.. one at a time..

Perhaps it would be a good idea to get the Eadd Chaplaincy open again.

And there it is again... "I don't know what was actually said but I'll cleave to whatever version I've been indoctrinated with (I suspect at a time of turmoil?) to the death even if I can't explain a fuckin' word of it.".

Sod the minutiae: what about the basics? God is eternal and his plans are weird and ineffable... yet cannot possibly be eternal cos he either exists outside of eternity (logical paradox) or works his wonders in so fucked a fashion as to be incomprehensible (and reprehensible) to all. Eternal means eternal - which means now, forever and for always. To make an exception for "the fall" is just nonsensical.

If I ever get into heaven who and what will I behold? My family deaded born again... but at what point? Foetuses flushed now born again? Grannies demented now sane again? Cavemen from my very distant past barely human? And all for ever? And ever? With no hope of change? All to worship some fucked up deity who smotes folks for shits and giggles? Fuck that. It's vile beyond belief to even consider the horrors :|

PS: Choirboy Buggery thread should indeed be opened to avoid murking Gibberings. I really would like answers to those questions and more though - I have many. Be warned. Be afraid. Be very afraid ;)

Or be able to answer or point me in the right direction at least.

You started it :p

All that aside... <3

Indeed Shambles, your God sounds vile beyond belief..

Ive never been 'indoctirnated'. I believe the Spirit has led me into Truth much like a shepherd leads a sheep.
I'm not a cradle Christian. I used to be into Buddhism and Hinduism.. I did the I Ching daily.. Christianity really didnt appeal to me! The eastern religions that Id studied seemed so much cooler than dreary old Cliff Richardsy Christianity.
But He led me and He delivered me.. I'm sure had I not got pregnant in India and become a Christian.. I would be dead.. My life style was horribly hedonistic. Yeah Turmoil was involved but so what?

Shambles. remember I am ignorant and muddy of thought.. could you simplify your questions for me in future please.
Re the fall. (which is an Augustine concept. not all streams of Christianity accept his version..* ) .. We were told that if we ate the apple we would die..the snake** said they wouldnt die.. They did..

Death means distance from God. Separation from God.. This is why we need the at-one- ment to know Life.
Those that choose separation still have eternity but its death, loneliness and emptiness.
Foetuses do live too. Ive no exact script there just a personal revelation.

We get to be with Him forever in His Kingdom yeah.. plenty of hope of change. You can do what you want. theres a whole universe to explore..

* whole nother post re talking snakes etc.. its a good dialogue... looking forward to chewing it over with yuousss in Eadd Chaplaincy.

** Again, check out Orthodox interpretations

Re 'be afraid'.. I dont do fear Shambles. Ive got an omnipotent, omnipresent God behind me.

If God is for me who can be against me ay? :D

Dont forget also.. pride comes before a fall.

<3 back at you :)

The Apple: God is omniscient so knew the lass would snack 'pon it so is but a tease at best. Prick at worst. Free will? I see none here.

As for Eastern religions, I have no fondness for them as a rule either. Buddhism included (despite my "Zen" posturings). I do relate best to Hinduism to an extent (god is one but is so fuckin' fucked it requires a bazillion demigod incarnations to even begin to make even the slightest sense of... and even then fucked it with all that caste bullshit.)

And heaven means having the privilege of eternally worshipping Yahweh (god of war and some mountain in Israel) for all eternity last I heard. Hell being either distance from said hatemongering egoist (I hope) or eternal burning (meh - ya get used to pain and the tunes and company would be a bonus). Depends on your (mis?)translation of the varying texts. Such as they are.

What stage of life do foetuses get to be in heaven then? One cell? Two cells? Newborn? Teenage? Old aged?

Can you please make a thread over in Religion and Spirituality as I have asked?
If I stay awake then I'll shift all these posts over to one in there.

P&S is far too nicey for passion, Monsta. I respectfully call you reopen the EADD version and shift all this shite over there cos some of us really do want the debate. I've tried it in P&S and it doesn't play well...

Nor anywhere but seeing as it started here... I'll take an infraction or two if you prefer. Free speech and all that :)<3

And keeps all the bullshit in one clearly labelled thread too ;)
