you shouldn't have to put up with that shit if it's happening, and I know this does happen because I've seen it myself.

When it's happened to my sister, she just sits there and takes it (which enrages me when I find out about it afterwards), because it's fucking hard to get the courage to kick off in an effective way if youre shy, or if youre just so depressed or in pain or whatever, with the whole situation of you being in hospital in the first place

my advice would be to physically write down the times they bring your meds, and press your call nurse buzzer when theyve gone 10 minutes past the time you shouldve got your next ones. sometimes there's other issues relating to lateness, but if yours is 100% about laziness of staff, then explain to them that youre in pain, and theyre late, and you need them. ask them for a reason why it's late. ask them who the sister is on shift and ask them what's the formal procedure on how to pursue complaining about, or rectifying the situation.

if your GF is with you, get her to go out to the nurses station and kick up and ask what the problem is and tell them it's unacceptable and both you and her always ask the nurses for timescales, ie if they say 'soon', ask them at approx what time, and then record it, and present that to the sister.

if youre absolutely desperate right NOW and aren't up to doing the whole nitpicky stuff, then just buzz and rebuzz and demand you get your pain meds immediately. this can sometimes cause relationship issues between you and them later, but if youre desperate it's possibly best not to give a fuck about that atm. and ask to see the sister on shift

oh, and ALWAYS ALWAYS tell the DRs about you not getting them on time when you see them on rounds 9am/1pm/5pm visits etc, or whatever they have you on. must forward feedback about it to them later. I know that doesnt help you know tho.

I know I give positive rave reviews about Jimmys a lot, but thats based on an overall opinion of 20+ years of my sisters treatment.
they regularly fuck up with her meds quite a bit, especially on being discharged, and can have us waiting around needlessly for 5 hrs before I can take her home

good luck <3

[edit] .. hmn, youre on morphine? very very surprised they havent given you a controllable drip of some sort to self medicate [with obvious limitations], thats what I normally see happening. every 2 hours is possibly not the norm? as its normally every 4 or 6 in the usual med & obs runs to my knowledge, or a self controlled drip .. not that should make any fucking difference.

[edit x 2] 11.30pm - 12am is shift change and the 2 have to pass on patient shift info between each other before they can leave. maybe thats the current issue, combined with the problem of 2 hr meds ... not excusing, just trying to reason what the prob is <3

Thanks for your advice :) I will try the writing down thing. I have tried kicking off, getting my wife or family members to get involved when I am too ill, writing complaints, asking the doctors to help, and pressing the call button again and again. They have all had an alright amount of success, but the problem is as you say they treat you like scum for asking them to do stuff right. They also change shifts (as you pointed out as well), so if you manage to get them to do things right by the end of the shift it rotates and your stuck with incompetents again! 2 hourly morphine is unusual, but they never trust me with the self administration devices for some reason lol. I have also tried building a rapor with the nurses, so they'll treat me how they'd treat a friend, but that's the worst method I've used. They take it as a green light to do even less!

Still, it's not the worst treatment I've had. One time they left me nil by mouth with no drip for 48s on a ward with no windows in the middle of summer. They also forgot to take me off the nil by mouth list so I didn't get to eat for 3 days. They left a big jug of piss I'd filled on the first day next to my bed, and colostomy bags all over the ward. On top of that I only got my morphine about 5 times in the 48 hours before they operated on me! their idea of infection control was to put a mop in some cold water and aimlessly swipe it around on the floor, then drain it in a sink used by the patients to brush their teeth!

I really hope I can avoid the colostomy, because another 7-14 days on here is going to drive me insane. I really don't like to complain, because I like to think they do this job because they care for people, but in a lot of cases it doesn't seem to be true.

This treatment is awful but it doesn't surprise me. I don't know what to do to fix it but I know it can be bad, my brother had terrible treatment - and is now dead, possibly (who can tell) due to the poor treatment. I don't think you're going to die quite yet though ;) But you must kick up a fuss if you're not getting the treatment you are entitled to. MPs are, generally, shit but I bet it's worth getting one on the case, if it really is as bad as you describe.

Sorry to hear your predicament Mr S. - I know how you feel, but I didn't get a chance to think about it - was rushed into surgery for two massive abscesses.. ask them if the colostomy will be reversible.. I had a Hartmann's procedure - this is reversible - I'm back to normal with no real after effects.. best wishes and good vibes to you.

No sooner is ketamine up my hooter than I sneeze it out. I don't have sterile water, how risky is IMing the stuff with filtered water?

no clue about the filtered water. I'd do it, but I'd be taking a risk [I've got shit loads of saline at my disposal tho, so I dont need to]. is boiled water a sterile option?

not a fan of snorting, & this may sound weird but have you snorted water before? [people do it with vodka shots n whatnot]

Ive snorted water a few times, harm reduction wise to get rid of powder from the nose.

if youve snorted water before and can do it okay, what about snorting some before snorting ket. it might help reduce post sneezing. it might make it sting a lot more tho

No Marmalade I've not snorted water before but I'll give it a shot before I start mucking about with needles and street K. Thanks!

EDIT OF LOVE: Well that was like going swimming but what do you know, no sneezing! %) <3

Nice one marmz! I LOVE YOU!

I've hoofed about 1/4 gram without sneezing I am overwhelmed with emotion. =D

Thanks mate :) They said it would be reversible, but I think I will end up having another one if they reverse it because they come from my crohns disease, so even if the colostomy gives it a chance to heal it will damage itself in next to no time after reversal! How was it when you had it? Was it easier to look after? Did it affect youir life much? And did the surgery hurt that much?

Sorry to here about your brother man :( I feel like I would just be joining a loooong list of people complaining in a similar way. Everyone I know who has had multiple run ins with the NHS has the same stories to tell. Fuck knows what would fix the situation though... I think some of the nurses need an attitude readjustment, much like some teachers. It doesn't help that they seem to be almost immune from getting the sack. The only thing that really reigned in the police force was accountability in courts, although they are still cunts a lot of the time. Maybe if they were properly accountable this would stop though. We can only dream.

MSB - there's nothing I can do from where I'm sat but I'm thinking of you mate. Really hope you get sorted.

Marmalade - I've not had a K session like that - EVER. Thanks! How I wish I had this information a year ago, before I sneezed 24 grammes away!

@ knockando - hah! lovely stuff. my first try at snorting water was a total palarva but did result in epic lulz at the time.
just been forced out of my warm quilt pit by my phone alarm to go run errands for other humans. will be back later to elaborate on my own water tale. altho it isn't really that noteworthy or particularly funny to anyone but me.

.. getting up at 9.29am on a sunday morning is obscene and very wrong. urgh

<3 and good morning EADD

went to a rave last night... did some pink love heart pills, think they had quite a lot of 2cb in them... felt nicely spangled. just woke up feeling fucked.. ate some toast... feel more fucked... back to bed soon i reckon

Hey Mr S.. the surgery wasn't too bad, as long as you can get the morphine / oxycontin etc that you need - I wore the pump out pressing the fucking button after I woke up after surgery, but the next morning, I met the surgeon in the corridoor on my way for a smoke - he nearly dropped when he saw me up, but needs must!
I won't lie, it took a bit of mental adjustment, and I shed a few tears when the woman came round to show me how to deal with shitting out a hole in your stomach, but I got used to it quickly and dealt with it ok - went back to work and all, but I think the prospect of getting it reversed made it easier to deal with mentally..
Crohns is a bastard, and I know what your saying, maybe better to get rid for once and for all - just depends how much it's ruling your life I suppose...
The only thing having the bag stopped me from doing was taking a plane journey, as I was a bit freaked out about what they said about the bag swelling up, but I've an uncle with the same dealie, and he said you just stick a pinhole at the top of the bag and it's fine..
Best of luck whatever happens dude - It was exactly this time of year I ended up in hospital too, spent Christmas in there, and as it happens my aunt has just had surgery done for something similar, so I'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes your way.

Morning EADD, Marmalade :)

I always snort water to clean-out after a sniffing sesh, can not abide the day afters crusty often inflamed nostrils. Especially since I have a tendency to use the one 8)

Drinking tea in bed, i've been awake since 8. The ginger kitten insisted on being fed. It's nice to languish though, let a little light fall onto my face. It's dark days, any daylight is better than none at all.

Hope everyone is well <3

Edit: many posts in before me. You lads sound as brave as fuck dealing with illness, much love to you both.

Thanks mate, that cheered me up :D Either that or the shot of morphine I just got given lol. I keep thinking I hope I can return the kindness to everyone one day, then quickly realise that'd mean them getting ill and I think nahhh. In a lot of ways I'd rather be the sick one, even if it does suck it's easier than seeing friends and family in that position.

Thank you very much for your reply :) it is refreshing to talk to a real person about this op! If I was to believe the specialist nurses, who are very much always look on the bright side of life characters, I would think this surgery was almost painless, didn't change one thing a bit, and is a piece of piss to reverse lol. What caused your abscesses may I ask? Do they prescibe oxys in the UK? I presume they must, but I have never seen it or ever been asked if I want any. I've also never seen any on the black market, although I know it exists.

There is a guy a bed down who was fighting in Libya, and he has shrapnel in his stomach! I have literally no idea how he got here, or why he is here. He doesn't speak a word of English beyond hello, and he didn't live here before the revolution as far as I can tell!?

No worries dude, and feel free to PM if you want a chat...
Mine were caused by diverticulitis, coupled with the effects of immuno-suppressant drugs I'm on for arthritis (think I mentioned this on another thread with you)
The real cause, I think, was that I spent 3 weeks beforehand in pain and very ill, having visited the GP 3 times, and each time being refused antibiotics because he said I had a viral infection that wouldn't respond to antibiotics.. I learned an important lesson - sometimes, you actually know more than the doctors about your own condition, and sometimes you need to put your foot down with them too... most doctors I've encountered only have a vague knowledge of the medication I'm on, as prescription of it is only allowed by specialists... it actually lowers your ability to fight infection to such a degree that any infection, like a simple cut on your skin, can turn nasty if not treated...
About the oxys, I'm not 100% on the UK situation - I'm in Ireland.. there was definitely Oxynorm, but iirc I was given Oxycontin too...
I remember back when I got my tonsils out age 19, I purposely stayed awake after the surgery to see what the morphine would be like - they found me wobbling down the corridor on the way to phone my pal to tell him that this is the shit, and escorted me back to bed... reckon I'm a bit of a fiend in waiting for that stuff :)

Fucking hell the snoring on this ward is driving be ballistic! I'm going to end up stabbing someone soon! I just want some sleep. My wife informs me that it's wrong to wake people up who are snoring though... I don't really understand why. Whether they are complicit in torturing me or not is neither here nor there. It is much worse than a dripping tap. Why the fuck should I not sleep for days a time because they decided to get to 30 stone and sleep flat on their backs? I wouldn't care if someone woke me up cus I was snoring. Its not difficult to get back to sleep, we are all smacked upto the eyeballs on here. The only thing that makes it difficult is snoring like a jet engine... Even ear plugs don't drown it out.

they giving you zopiclone at night? I had the same problem in hospital with the snoring/moaning/groaning at night, but asked for sleep meds, they happy to give them to you....

Oxy's, I wasn't on oxy's inside, but was given a couple packs to take home afterwards along with the dhc's etc.....

Ask to see a pain specialist, I had to as i had a high tolerance to opiates when I went in and the specialist pain doctor came and reviewed my meds and ensured the nurses were well briefed.

I know how you feel dude - my last night in hospital was on a trolley in the corridor of A&E - kept awake all night by a drunk guy roaring all fucking night - I was ready to smother the fucker with a pillow at the end of it...
