Is Glasto REALLLY as good as all the fucking hype it gets. We had radio 1 on today and all we heard was glasto this glasto that, stupid fucking fearn cotton going on and on about glasto.

Surely it can't be that amazing now, I can imagine it was really great when it wasn't such a big commercial machine.

Is is still as good now (I have never been to a festival so forgive my naivety) as it was 10 years ago or is it all just a big commercial hype fest now?

i wouldn't no what itslike now , but in the early mid 90s it was fkin highlite of the year.

Unfortunatley folk like meself have been priced out of it n i suspect their are many weekend warrior middle class wankers havin it large 8)

Glasto was quite good last night I thought, Chase & Status were good. They had a stage done up to look like a grimey council block was cool, then inside was like a London underground type club, looked brilliant.

I'm up early hangover free, head to town for a saturday morning gym session, then I'll go meet mates for pool and a pint, grab something to eat. Try and not spend a fortune ;)

I went twice about ten years ago and it was amazing. Those were the days when anyone could get a ticket, and loads of people jumped the fences. Spent the nights on Mitzis making friends with people, slept in, chilled to Al Green or something in the afternoon and then started up again - Bowie, the Chemical Bros, whatever. Great times, great people :)

I've been once, I am glad I went, but I'd never go back! Too big and mainstream for my taste, and I'm not a huge fan of guitar rock, of which there is too much.

You needed to get away from the main stages, I reckon :) (looking at the lineup, if I went now I'd hardly watch anyone on the main stage.

I reckon so. Back when I went, I was one of the most mainstream people there (pretty much yer "weekend warrior middle class wanker" except I had a shit job ;)). Looked at the crowd now and it's all fresh-faced kids....

Thing is, back in the day, going to festivals used to be something that people did if they were really into music. (And/or drugs, I guess, depending on the festival). It was a bit left-field, even the bigger festivals. Then sometime between 2001 (when I left the UK) and 2008 (when I came back) it had become trendy. Glastonbury went from being completely countercultural to being another part of the season - Wimbledon, Glastonbury, the Boat Race and Henley for all I know. Fucking luxury tipis at £2000/night, celebrities coming in by helicopter, fuck that.

Luckily there are still festivals targeted at music lovers...

Indeed. I blame Kate Moss.

^^thanks for the replies to my Glasto questions.

I have heard that the smaller stages there are more like the older days, I think if I went one year I would try and stay on the smaller stages. Saw some of the lineup for some of the smaller stages and it looked pretty good.

Well I was up quite early waiting for the fairies to knock the door and ask for my autograph, then fell asleep again, lol. Luckily someone must have signed for me as the package was just lieing on the floor next to the door :)

how fuckin cool would it be to arrive by chopper and have a pimped out tipi, no carrying all your shit from the car in loads of trips or in a wheel barrow and u dont wake up covered in mud and shit feeling like youve just done a tour in the nam. id say there are some scabby heads waking up in that mud pit this morning. id i was there, and had a tipi, id probably wake up fresher than i would in my own gaff :P

Was dissapointed by last nights Glasto coverage, too much U2 'highlights'. Can't stand them or their shitty music. Biffy & Morrissey were the only 2 acts I saw on the tele I didn't mind seeing the rest was pretty dull. I prefer it when they sjhow all the weird and wonderful shit that goes on anyway like that council block building area with the secret rave hidden away inside a fridge that you could only get to by going through some freaky as fuck area full of terrifying and bizzare people. I was freaked out watching it on tele, imagine being out yer nut and having to walk through there. :D

I'd still love to go to Glasto just to see what it's all about, definitely on my list of things to do before I do.

^^ I'm the same, was seeing far too much U2. To be honest, although I don't like them, if I did they wouldn't be my ideal choice for displaying a live event.

Get the online coverage lads, choice of 4 different channels on the BBC :)

Thought U2 were pretty good. Morrissey disappointed me a bit - good song selection but his band are pretty dull and his voice is going. Biffy Clyro just aren't my thing. Saw the Heliocentrics earlier and they seemed pretty good, will have to check them out some more.

U2, good? =D

Morrissey wasn't all that exciting really tbh but I do like his music. I watched some other coverage on the red button, nothing really took my fancy tho watched a bit of BB King.

just completed what was, in my head, an impossible task. first draft of thesis outline sent off.

now i just need to do as much as possible from that outline to write about in my progression report and i might stop shitting myself so much.
