Hey Everyone,

I am new to the forum, but have used the site as a resource for information in the past.

I have a small problem on my hands and was wondering if anyone could offer some help:

I am currently on a generic form of Subutex (8mg 2x/day) to help kick an opiate habit of seven years. Last Wednesday I had a first time visit with a doctor in my area that specializes in pain management and was given a prescription for a months worth of Subutex (60ct - 8 mg tablets).
Over the course of the week I gradually overtook what was prescribed to me. It's now early Tuesday morning and I am left with a little over half a pill. Addiction is a slippery slope!

The Doctor's office is open at in a few hours and I'm wondering the best way to approach this problem. Since it's the first time I've had any kind of issue whatsoever I thought about saying I lost them with the hope that he is lenient and writes out a script for enough to hold me till next months appointment. On the other hand if I tell him the truth I am afraid he will most likely see me as a liability and discontinue the medication all together.

If/when I do obtain another script I plan on having my girlfriend dispense them to me as prescribed.

Any advice you might offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

this is going to greatly depend on what kind of a person your doctor is. sure yeah, because it's your first time fucking up he might write you more, if he isn't a dick. on the other hand seeing as how this is your first time seeing him (i think i read that right) he may write you off as an addict and tell you never to return. you also run the risk of him reporting you to multiple sources for drug seeking behaviour. if i were you i try my hardest to stick it out for the rest of the time....or atleast a week before you next appointment, if you ran out 1 week after he prescribed them that looks hella shady.

Most places have a "one time only" policy where they will re-write you a script. I wouldn't say that I lost them though, honestly who loses their lifeline to live normally?? I would say that you had some friends over and after they left you realized most of your pills were stolen from you

Or you could just be honest about it and hope that he is an understanding doctor. You are going through a pain management doctor and not through a program? PM docs are notorious about being "IDGAF what happened to your pills"

That is a shit-ton of bupe to go through in just a week. Why are you taking so much? Try 4mg in the morning and 4mg in the afternoon...I dont understand why doctors prescribe such high doses....The lower the dose the better IMO/E

I'm sorry but we do not allow these "what should I say to my doctor to get (more) drugs?" type of threads.

There is no way that we can know how your doctor will react so any advice could backfire. I think the best advice is to use what you know about the doctor, be cautious and feel out the situation. Use your intuition based on what you've experienced. In general, addicts develop a near-psychic sixth sense at reading people because it becomes necessary to support the habit.

I also heavily encourage you to check out the various iterations of the bupe mega threads (accessible via the front page and the directory). Bupe is not a typical drug and you were likely counterproductively chasing your high. While just about every other drug produces stronger effects with the more you take, many find bupe to do the opposite. Most people find REDUCING their dose to 2-4mg or often less produces far BETTER effects than jacking up into the 16-32mg range.

Welcome to the forum and I really hope you stick around because this is a fantastic community. If you have any questions about the forum or about recovery issues (I'm nearly done with my studies in addiction counseling) please feel free to private message me any time.

take care
