bah
i can't stand this crap.
i try not to be prejudiced.. but i just keep on failing.
firstly, the whole kid dying because police were chasing him sounds bs. if my memory serves me correct, he did actually have a warrant or something outstanding? therefore he died resisting arrest (assuming he did have a warrant and the police did chase him). i don't understand how the police are responsible for someone falling off a bike and impaling themself? i just don't get it. and riots? they're so counterproductive!
'we hate police, therefore we're going to riot'
'oh look, there's more police.. they're targetting us because we're aboriginal!'
*blank look*
i have to agree with john brogden, and i think its refreshing to hear a policitian just be blunt. bulldoze the block. people living in squalor and poverty is creating this crime. get the area cleaned up a bit so they have something to be proud of...
and as for aboriginees being angry because they were 'fucked up' by english settlers. whatever.
a) it was 200+ years ago, thats 3 - 4 generations
and b) they're not the only people who have been invaded.riotting and crying foul of the police just doesn't cut it with me.
i think the police have a tough job, and i respect all of their actions. that includes drug related actions. i just think their actions in situations with drugs are with the best intentions, but completely misguided. i don't think their actions last night were misguided at all. as for police harrasment/presence in the area, it's because of high crime. to me, it seems as though aboriginees are using their race as a manipulative tool. there's no place for racism or anti-racism. (people using their race as an excuse).
bah to the whole situation. bulldoze the lot.
flame away, i'm just saying what so many people are thinking.
edit: and for the record, i am a white caucasion male. am i being racist? or realist? and if i were aboriginal would it make a difference?
