Well, I've taken my last dose of oxycodone tonight, just a few hours ago (about 50 mg) and I'm quitting over the weekend. It sucks because I have a chronic health condition and oxys are the ONLY thing that helps but but I've felt my tolerance was beginning to rise (after doing 30 mg a day for almost a year, now up to 50) and its too expensive. I'm unemployed again and I just can't do it, plus, I know I can't do this forever. Hopefully, I can go back to just doing it on the weekends again like I used to, did that for almost three years and never had problems. I want to thank everyone on Bluelight for all the advice over the last couple of months and tips, it means a lot. I'll keep everyone updated. I have been told my withdrawal shouldn't be that bad considering I would only dose once a day and never exceeded 50 mg, but we'll see. Any feedback or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!!

Is tapering an option? You're still going to have decent withdrawals if you've been a daily doser for a year.

^^This. Seeing as you're using for a real medical problem tapering will make it a lot easier as pain can come just from quitting, nevermind the pain you already have.

Edit: Just seen your next post. Can you get hold of any benzos or Z drugs?

Ah, I tried, can't get hold of anything like that right now. Just have nyquil and melatonin. I really don't have a choice.

yeah, gabapentin is really helpful, and it might be a feasible option as its available generic, and is not controlled. I don't know if you can manage to get a prescription for it, but IME it is far more helpful at elliminating almost all withdrawal symptoms than benzodiazepines (though those are good to have around for sleep). Good luck, and I'm sorry you have to go through this. It sucks for someone without pain issues to go through withdrawals, but for someone who does have legitimate chronic health problems to be forced off a medication that is the only thing that works due to a lack of income is really, really sucky.

Let us know how things pan out.

If you are going to go cold turkey then I suggest you have a benzo on hand for anxiety and insomnia (anything will suffice, but something long-acting like diazepam or clonazepam would be best), ibuprofen 800 mg every 6 hrs for aches, get some loperamide for the diarrhea, and if you can get some clonidine that would be great. Clonidine helps with the sweats, even helps with sleep and diarrhea.

Have you ever tried DXM? If you have and enjoyed it 230mg doses will kill most if not all w/d symptoms... Last time I w/d I only suffered minor insomnia thanks to DXM, and after five days was w/d free!!! But, if you've never tried DXM, I'd suggest not using it your first time while you're in w/d, as 2/3s of the people who try it don't seem to like it. That would suck tripping off DXM wihle in w/d if you didn't enjoy DXM :\
