I've been on subs for about 4 months and it's time for me to quit I have half of an 8mg strip left would it be possible for me to use it and detox my self without dealing with really bad withdraw symptoms ?

No! If u don't know God u might want to start searching for him. I sympathize with u but if u been on it for months and just quit off half 8 mg strip u will soon pray for death but it won't come. I've weened myself off it so I speak from compassion and experience. I wish u the best. I do. I SLOWLY ((every 3 days) dropped my dose by a mg or 2 using a pill cutter (pills are generic). So anyway as I got lower and lower doses I had to decrease by smaller amounts. My last dose was 1 mg. soon I was as sick as u can imagine and in bad pain for 6 days. Some BP meds help and get a heating pad. Take lots of hot baths. On the 7th I got lil better and progressively better daily from there. Again, I wish the best for u.

Im not sure what your DOC is, but it wont be as acute as a heroin or oxy withdrawal.

Use the 8mg you have left to ween yourself as best you can. Sub withdrawal sucks, but its not bad. It does tend to last forever, the sweats and chills usually stick around until its relapse time.

I was doing half a quarter of an 8mg strip a day then about 2 weeks ago I started doing a quarter of one

I have been taking 16 mgs of suboxone for several months. That's what my doctor prescribes for me. He has no interest in taking me off of it yet. Am I going to have to check in somewhere when it's time to come off it? Are the withdrawals that bad?

Generally speaking the withdrawal from subs is less acutely painful than short acting full agonists like heroin or oxy, however due to suboxone's long half-life the withdrawal (and subsequent PAWS) tend to linger for what feels like ages for some. Withdrawal intensity is subjective and variable so it's not feasible to give you a prediction on how intense your withdrawal will be, however one thing that's for certain is it's not gonna be fun.

For many people the PAWS (post acute w/d syndrome) is the real beast... generally consisting of apathy, depression, anxiety, and lingering RLS that serves as a constant reminder that you're not quite through the mud yet, sometimes lasting months after acute withdrawal. You can do your best to lessen the blow by performing a slow, strict, and controlled taper however at some point you're going to have to pay the piper to some extent.

If you're addiction goes beyond just physical dependence (ie. You are emotionally self medicating and/or have a deep history of recreational opioid use) checking into a proper facility should aid in instilling tools like proper coping skills and therapy to help prevent future relapse, while sometimes providing (generally weak) comfort meds. If you're dead set on avoiding entering treatment though, a home detox is possible and is done frequently. Feel free to check out the recovery forums for support should you ever decide you're ready to quit :).

^----this. Plasticity hit the nail on the head. Sub withdrawal, i would say, is 90% mental strength. At least it was for me. Ive gone through multiple binges, usually anywhere from 2-5 months at a time, to try and keep off true opiates. Usually i was dosing anywhere from 2-4mgs a day. And i gotta say, almost every time, i dealt with minimal physical withdrawal symptoms, and i always quit cold turkey. This isnt to say that i didnt have any negative physical effects, i did have lower back pain, some aches, and hot/cold, but this was only for a few days/ a week, and were very miniscule in terms of intensity, especially compared to full agonist opiate withdrawal. But as stated already, the worst part is the lingering PAWS and mental withdrawal. The depression just seems to last forever, as does the restless legs. I wish you luck! If you have a strong mind you can do it!

sub withdrawal makes you tired for awhile, because its a strong dopamine agonist.... Whenever I stopped subs I just felt sort of watery eyes, yawning, slightly upset stomach, but mainly lethargy.... My doctor told me he often scripts adderall to his patients giving up suboxone, to help them through the PAWS and lethargy...

but generally if you are taking 1-2 mg of suboxone, you are totally ready to go cold turkey if you want to .... I would recommend it... its the "mental" hooks that are the hardest... but if you don't even really think about your subs anymore, or feel kinda "giddy" to take it at all, or crave it anymore, you can stop at any time.... thats what i found... And withinin a week you should feel like 100 percent better if you quit

I am new to blue light and this is my first time posting so I apologize if rd in the wrong place. I am not sure how to create a new thread. I am currently taking 4mg of suboxone and will jump off on January 15th. I am scared shitless and need support of how to get through these withdrawals without using anything addictive. Do you guys have any insight of how I can e prepared now or any supplements i can start taking to help ahead of time? Thanks so much!! Would love to know anyone who has jumped off at 4 mg successfully. Thanks!

I believe it's gonna be tough but doable. I've quit methadone and it was pretty harsh, but I believe the fact that you are only using it for a short amount of time will make the 'pos-withdrawal' effects much more bearable.

Good luck!
Eric

i jumped.... 4mg is better than a lot of other people in your situation..... but you should be taking more like 2 mg EVER OTHER DAY before you jump to nothing..... Thats the science of how it works for me.... So for you friend, I would begin by dosing your 4mg EVERY OTHER DAY, for about a month.... than do 2mg EVERY OTHER DAY for a month, and then quit and it will be absolutely painless for you.... The reason I say every other day is because its not really neccesary to dose bupeprenorphine (suboxone) every day, it lasts a long long time... So the every other day dosing helps people get ready to quit big time

I am in day 5 no suboxone and I want to tell you - it is possible!! I jumped from 4 mg and yes it sucks but gosh it's so worth it! I am staying positive. You can totally do this!
