hi. i just had a go at quitting smoking using the nicorette inhaler and i have given up on quitting now after 5 days of use of this product as it caused me to have massive mood swings and uncontrollable anger to the point of snapping at my girlfriend for no reason at all. i haven't had anger like this since before i quit meth.

so i have decided to go back to the cigarettes and now all is better.

has anyone else had strange side effects from the nicorette inhaler or any other nicorette products?

i've decided not to use nicorette products ever again due to nasty side effects.

Uhhhh, it's most likely because you were withdrawing from nicotine. Those things only give a really small dose. I doubt it's a side effect. Especially if it only contains nicotine in the inhaler.

yeah thats typical nicotine withdrawing symtoms, give it another try my friend :)

dj_esky.... Why not try a different avenue.
While it may not work for everyone, my better half underwent hypno-therapy for smoking and hasnt had a puff for 8 months +.
Had 2 or 3 sessions at around $30 bucks a pop and every one was recorded so if you feel the urge you can listen to the recordings again for reassurance.

Good luck with your quitting mate :)

I understand everyone is different but I have to put it bluntly. If you were serious about quitting you just do exactly that, no use on beating round the bush with replacements. you have to understand that anger will always be present when you do start to quit to, although I found it subsided after about a week. just keep yourself busy the whole time. good luck with it mate

I hate being around people trying to give up smoking &you cant give up smoking cold turkey ...

just wake up have a smoke with your coffee ...

and one after dinner ....

then eventually try and avoid the after dinner smoke ...

and then the breaky smoke ...

its waking up in the morning craving that makes you go crazy .. and restless sleep.

also will power has alot to do with it ... 2 weeks of hell then you will be normal again so it's just the people around you that have to help you and understand why your a cranky bastard ...support from friends that dont smoke is a great help ... keepning your mind off it by excercising ... ride motorbike ..

Watching a movie on tv and seeing people smoke can set you off ... same with being at a pub or club and seeing people smoke ...

best advise if you want to try quit again is pre warn everyone and don't go out where you know people are smoking and tell friends you dont want them around you smoking for the next 2 weeks...

usually 2 weeks is the most it will take for you to stop .. well that was for me.

I don't smoke cigs anymore but I still like my weed ...

Good luck ..

i smoked for 15 years thereabouts.
sometimes heavily sometimes not.
funny thing is i could never have a cig before 12-1pm.
bit weird, but i could make up for smoking all night!!!
morning ciggies were wrong in my system.unless, of course i had not been to sleep, cuz of meth or opiated drive or psyches, whatever.
i found i could cut right down to a few day, but had trouble getting beyond that.

anyway, in august 2003, i decided to try hypnotherapy .
first thing is, you dont go all the way under, which i found interesting.
2nd, is that u have to want to give up.
if you dont want it hypnotherapy has less chance of working.

anyway, it worked for me.
when i got home i actually went out the back and lit a ciggie, and after a 2 puffs, just went,
"naah fuck this, and put it out"
tried one a few days later too.
same thing.

it was like all the hypnotherapy did was help strengthen the resolve to quit.
to reinforce your decision.
thats why you really have to want to quit.

after a few months i couldnt even smell a cig in the street without retching from the poisonous smell. even now they smell toxic.

i cant even have cig in a mix either. ruins the taste of nice fruity weed.
in fact i gave up smoking as my way of using weed too, after a while. cuz my lungs dont like it.

so now i eat my weed, when i can. if i am goona use it that is.

dmt, now thats different. still gotta smoke that , and the trip is so intoxicating the smoke doesnt bother me.

so anyway, cut down for a while first if you can,
and then hypnotherapy.
thats my advice.

but most of all........you have to want to do it. then just do it.

I'm right now ending day 4 cold turkey (its been hell) and I feel like shit...it's nicotine withdrawal. I've been combating it with random naps when I can and my alprazolam prescription. The last few days have seriously been total shit --- it's definitely not the NRT therapy, its withdrawal. Good luck, and try quitting nicotine, not just smoking (I don't plan on stopping smoking pot).

I suggest Champix, haven't smoked for over 2 months now all thanks to them tablets. SO much easier then gum, inhaler & patches. Plus you don't have nicotine withdrawals or at least I didn't.

Good luck either way cause them darts are fucking evil!

This is really top advice, even though I've seen hypnotherapy work first hand. I personally think moderation is the key. My mum used to smoke 1.5 packs a day minimum, but when she tried to quit cutting down slowly was the best way. She when down to having one in the morning, a couple at lunch, one when she got home from and then one before bed (so about 6-8 a day) and slowly just cut down one by one from then.

The biggest thing is sticking to the rules you place for yourself, If you say your aloud to have 5/day don't say "ohh I'll have 6 today but only have 4 tomorrow) THIS WILL NOT WORK!

It's a really good habit to drop if you can, good luck

There are drugs available that will stop those kinds of cravings while you quit, you still have an urge to smoke but can get through it without wanting to smash somebodies face in, check the champix thread.

i should have mentioned in my post about this, that, i had cut down quite considerably, down to about three-to maybe six at most ciggies a day.

i definitely think cutting down the body and minds dependence by cutting down the number of cigs you smoke is helpful.

i have known people to just quit tho, without any cut down period. 25 cigs one day, none the next etc.

when it comes down to it, it is the psychological dependence that needs to be broken.

the physical dependence is actually quite slight. i cant remember the exact figures, but the body detoxes the nicotine very quickly. like hours or minutes as opposed to days or weeks etc.

that is why you really need to want to give up whole heartedly....because your mind will be triggered by all sorts of things if you are not ready to give up yet.

I've known people to quit Cold Turkey aswell. But known more to try it and then go back to it.

And also some of the people who have succeeded Cold Turkey didn't manage first time.

Any how it's a good habit to get rid of. Good luck bro!

Yes you can

Yes, you can stop.

Millions of people have.

Read all the positive things that occur when you stop.

You will be honouring yourself more when you stop.

Stopping that habit is easy......and you will glow with health.

It might take time, it may not, but be easy on yourself and keep focused on the positive.

Oh, a chew on a pen...!!!!!!

Instead of a nicotine inhaler, why not try an electronic cigarette? Should deliver more nicotine to you and they aren't that hard to get off e-Bay or other places. You still get your nicotine, minus the carcinogens (mostly).

Someone I work with is currently quitting smoking using tablets prescribed by her doctor. I assume these would be Champix? I should consider getting myself some, because I simply can't be bothered quitting otherwise.

^ I've heard quite a few people rave about champix, most of them are back smoking now though.

Also there is a risk of suicidal ideation whilst on them. Just the other day when I was in the psych ward I was in there with a lady who had been on champix and had tried to kill herself.

^^interesting... 8/10 of my mates that tried champix are back on the cigs after less than 6 months

As mentioned above... Motorbike riding is a great release and I channeled my nicotine craving anger into dirt bikes and drumming with some excellent results :)

I quit smoking cigs cold turkey after a good mate was diagnosed with emphysema at the age of 25 and now I may have the odd social smoke every 2-3 weeks max. I'm not sure if I would have quit without hearing such tragic news...

Anyway... I feel great, food tastes better, I can smell heaps better, I have more energy and WAY MORE SEX DRIVE!!!

Weed will always be my friend but I prefer vaporizing honey oil these days
