quitting crystal meth

Keep as busy as you can with work and healthy activities such as exercise. When things get real bad try and find someone (sober) who will talk you down, kind of like a sober sitter.

I've actually been able to sit in rooms with crystal being passed around and never give in. Recently I've taken 1-2 month long breaks from crystal as well, not using any at all. I can use once in a month, then not touch it for the following 30 days.

That being said I always replace one drug with another....a serious underlying issue I need to address.

To answer your question more directly....it took me some serious awful meth binges-- where I thought I was dying, etc,.....to finally be able to turn the other way and really reconsider what I was doing. Being up for days on end is also just ridiculous.

Maybe consider the ridiculousness of meth. Its easy for me to turn it down now because I've been there....the end of the road is malnutrition, severe lack of sleep, "geeking" to the point of psychosis, etc,...and the other conundrum with Ice is that I can only get "so high" off it after 2 or 3 days. If there is more and more meth being consumed, it just stops working after so long.

Its hard to say what I want without sounding like I support meth use or abuse, but here goes. Get your kicks out, it worked for me. On the bright side you will always walk away with a lesson learned. Sometimes we really have to "go there" to finally get sick and tired enough of our DOC's and more importantly fully understand them inside and out, and why we want to hurt ourselves.

I'll end with this:

Crack is way, way worse than anything I've gone through on meth.

^ I don't know if I would personally recommend using meth to the point of psychosis and malnutrition, just to "get it out of your system and experience the lows it can cause". I could definitely see a lot of people not being able to stop by the time it gets that bad, and/or having a MUCH more difficult time with stopping even if they are able.

Ideally, he can take our word for it. I know thats not always realistic, however.

Accomplish tasks (however small at the start) that are central to your values and make you feel good about the way you're living your life. It sounds simple and perhaps a bit obvious but this was a huge help when it came to me getting clean. All these dopaminergic drugs, they hijack our natural sense of reward. But if you keep trying to trigger it the natural way (I'd say there's almost a high from accomplishing something that you have a stake in) eventually the response will be more and more effective to the point where cravings are less and your lifestyle makes it easier to stay sober.

--this isn't for Day 1. You asked about the long run and I think of that as when the dust settles and you have to pick up where you left off in your everyday life. That's when this worked for me.

I find having a routine helps keep cravings down. Like try to get out of bed, shower get dressed, do some dishes/feed the dogs/cats etc. Getting exercise and eating well helps alot. You really cant hang out with any friends that use anymore imo, why tempt yourself. Delete their numbers/any form of contact - that counts for dealers/friends of dealers too.

The first few days you really just need to sleep and eat and sleep. Drink some water, eat a piece of bread or something and sleep, if youre not hungry just sleep, youll get hungry in time. For me Wellbutrin/Bupropion has helped alot. I was a pretty heavy user, only for 9 months thankfully but life was bleak and seemed pointless at first. The wellbutrin really helped me get some energy back and feel a bit better sometimes. Im on 300mg a day now and Im doing alot better with it.

Basically - eat, sleep, take some vitamins, try and exercise and feel good about the fact youre getting clean and doing yourself a huge favour. Quitting meth isnt easy, but you CAN and WILL get through it. Best of luck!
