Quit smoking for over two years, thinking about starting again

Like the title, I quit over two years ago. I quit everything because of a nasty meth habit.

I just feel that people shouldn't be sober completely, or more specifically there should be times during the week where you let go.

I started using Kratom about 5 months ago. I started using this as I felt a need to really relax. I love having that time in the evening where I just get to relax.

Kratom really isn't the most appropriate in terms of effectiveness. It gives me a release, unfortunately it doesn't carry any social interactions associated with it. This is the thing I miss most form weed, going to my friends house and just getting stoned and hanging out.

Everytime I talk to someone about this they seem to suggest otherwise. I don't want to be a daily smoker, I just want to be able to use it like I use Kratom, 2-4 times a week in the evening. I have gained incredible self control through the process of becoming sober.

No one helped me get clean off everything before, most people didnt even really know what I was on. Most thought I just smoked weed. I got clean off of meth, vikes, and weed all on my own, without much trouble truthfully (minus wd). Honestly wd was worse for vikes, fucking runny noses.

Weed has all the amazing benefits to our health, and everyday there seems to be something new and better about it.

My mom has been smoking for 40+ years, she makes 80k, and seems very happy. She could lose some weight, but apart from that and her occasional smokers cough it seems to have done her very well. Shes a daily smoker.

I don't know what I am doing here, as I step back and evaluate this plea to people reading this on Bluelight I realize I simply trying to justify something I know is wrong.

Say something interesting, convince me that weed is good. Or simply motivate to continue abstinence.

I myself quit for over a year then unfortunately got back into it.

I can't say that I enjoy being back in it, but I'm not depressed either, all I can say is that you know what a meth habit is like, if you feel you can keep your weed usage in check to use it how it should be (exactly how you said; in the evening once in awhile, with friends, weekends etc).

I really am in your shoes more than you know haha. All I can say is that you're 2 years clean already, don't change that unless you really want to. :)

would u just be buying street weed or could u have a choice in what strains u can smoke if u do??

having a choice of which strain could greatly improve your experience. you dont want to start off smoking some heavy duty sativa strain, like super lemon haze(or any other haze for that matter) you want more along the lines of an Indica-Heavy Hybrid. a pure indica can be very sedative and might just knock you out or make u useless.

like i said if u can get one, try an indica heavy hybrid. a few good examples: "Blue Cheese" "Northern Lights" indica x skunk hybrids (red cherry berry, l.s.d.,etc...)

look at this site for tons of strain info: http://en.seedfinder.eu

Everything in moderation and all is good!
Well done on quitting all the nasty stuff tho!

Thanks you for all the comments. I think I'm going to continue sobriety from weed. Yes it would be street weed and I'd have to call some shady people. We're just getting ready to maybe get a petition for the options to vote on legalizing, maybe afterwards lol.

Really I just need to think about it more. Going to quit kratoms though for a while and see if that has any effect in producing desires to smoke

im tellin u... u get the wrong kind of weed and it can make u feel paranoid and uncomfortable while in kratom w/d.
get the right kind of weed during your w/d and it will make you feel much much better imo.

but it sounds like uu have no choice in what strain u get, im so sry man. good luck tho and hell yah legalize it! look at my avatar! lol. holler at me if u have any questions.

Go slow, be prepared to realize you might now enjoy smoking anyone. Do not force the issue. I just do not like weed nearly as much as I used to. Set and setting have to be perfect for me to really enjoy anything more then a hit.

This being a harm reduction site I can suggest two things: If you want to smoke, wait a bit longer especially considering you are coming off a kratom dependency. 2. It might not be the best idea to add a new psychoactive into the mix.

I can tolerate oral cannabis much more then smoked cannabis nowadays. I also like hash far more then flowers (always have though).

I think it would be fine if it was legal or at least a very consistent and above-the-board source. If you have to do anything you feel uncomfortable doing, or it just stresses you out in the least, I wouldn't do it. You also want to worry about getting back into drugs, not because your starting weed again, but because you are opening the world to the shady underworld of drugs

What do you truly have to gain from smoking again?

It seems like you have the willpower to quit if it becomes too frequent of a habit. I say try it once a week or so and if you can handle it then why not?

I quit for a while myself, I thought I'd function better completely sober. Yeah I do, and that's why I now only smoke about once every two weeks, in my free time. Keeps me happy, and helps with my anxiety.

I can't believe I used to smoke 3-4 times a day.. It feels so much better when you don't do it as often.

Well, if you're just smoking to enjoy a recreational drug habit, it really is completely up to you. You're the quarterback of your own life. It does cost a little bit, and it does show up on drug tests, but if neither of those points are a concern at the moment, then there really is nothing anyone can tell you with regards to weed.

However, to the OP - it really doesn't sound like you want to enter into the world of drugs again. If you're stressed out about that, then you either need to change your mindset about smoking weed, which even you admit is not a big deal to use, or just stay away from drugs.

The main thing is to obviously stay away from meth...

I stopped smoking weed for a little more than 5 months after a dumb amphetamine binge last winter and I got back into it fine. 2 years is rather long though. If you're going to do it, make sure you're around relatively close friends and that you're in a very stress-free setting. Go and see a movie or some shit and get high as hell. And don't stress about it. I mean, shit, people can smoke a few times a week, or even a few times a year, and just have fun getting high, without REALLY being involved in the world of drugs, in my opinion...the only people with weed who are 'involved' are dealers or people who smoke enough that they help fund the dealers with their constant pot-smoking and buying habits. My thoughts...

i quit everything except caffine and cigs for 4 years and just recently this past year started vaping. i cant tell you the diff it has made. imo (which may be worth jack) taking such a break helped me so much to mature enough to be able to not only control but not worry about it. moderation man and have fun bc its just a fucking plant.

Strains are not that important weed is weed man. Also kratom w\d? He said he uses it 2-4 nights a week. No w\d at that level.

OP: I think giving your addictive personality and the fact you said you were addicted to marijuana you will likely get addicted. But it will probably be a much more functional and controllable addiction now that you've had a long period of not partaking. Quitting kratom will just make you want to smoke even more. Why start one drug right after quitting another? That's just setting yourself up for some trouble if you ask me.

IMO the whole concept that if you are addicted to one drug you are addicted to all drugs and that you must quit all drugs because they will lead you back to your drug of choice is a bunch of BS. Almost every addict I have seen in rehab use cigarettes, one of the most addicting substances on the planet, and if they stay clean and continue to smoke, it doesn't lead to them using other drugs again. IMO if you can use cigarettes and not relapse on anything else, then using anything else isn't more likely to make you relapse on the drug you had a problem with either. When it comes down to it, everyone has a vice that is bad for your health whether its drugs, eating unhealthy foods or participating in extreme activities that could risk your life. Its all about what each individual can psychologically handle. If you think you could smoke marijuana and it wouldn't lead you to go back to Meth, then I don't think you will have to worry. I would be classified as an addict and I still smoke weed without it leading to my past drugs that caused problems. I think part of this may be because weed IMO isn't much different then cigarettes in that I have rarely seen either cause someone's life to get out of control, one of the indications of addiction. Now if you were a meth addict that wanted to use cocaine or another drug of with similar addictive qualities that could make your life get out of control again, then that may lead you back to your drug of choice. This obviously differs from person to person so it may lead you to your past problems, but I think it is the premise that if you were addicted to one drug and now you will become addicted to every drug you ever try again is BS. Trying to quit weed is a different story compared to Heroin or Meth.

^ Ive seen people on BL whove kicked heroin yet said they had a harder time ceasing cannabis because its just their true DOC. After a point it can just become so ingrained in your lifestyle. Even meth, Ive kicked it myself personally, not as hard for me to quit as weed. I certainly dont feel completely drained and sluggish and suffer from malaise upon cannabis cessation, like meth, but when it comes to "gotta have it," weed is my go to and probably will be for the foreseeable future.

Weed also keeps me in check. I quit smoking in April for a good job attempt, couldnt deal with the sudden sobriety, slipped and threw away 2-3 years of booze sobriety (was/am a terrible alcoholic). It slowly snowballed back into a 5th a day habit and now Ive even been taking out most of a handle when I drink some times. My health is shit, Ive done a bunch of stupid shit with drunken blackout behavior, I feel sick all the time. I caught a DUI and have been dealing with jail, court dates, $2500 fines, expensive DUI classes, picking up trash on the highway instead of having the weekend to spend with my children. Basically fucked my whole life up again. I can confidently say this would have never happened if I hadnt tried to quit smoking weed earlier in the year.

As for OP, Id say if you have 2 years sober, keep it that way. You have the will and ability to stay completely sober, Im jealous as all hell. If you really have to, keep it to holidays and stuff or special occaisons. Weed seemed most magical for me back when it was something to look forward to and have a great evening doing (versus always being high everyday).
