quick question about opiates + mushrooms

Good day all. I currently wear a fentanyl patch and shoot dilaudid for BT pain. The wife and I are going to get our hands on some mushrooms for the weekend. I am just wondering if this combo is dangerous or if one pontentiates the other? Any adverse effects caused by the taking the shrooms while being on opiates?

I take opiates for pain, nothing like youre on and I took some mushrooms a couple of weeks ago. I had no problems at all and noticed the mushrooms were quite analgesic and helped with the pain quite a bit. I didnt notice any decrease in the potency of the mushrooms.
 
The subjective [perceived] effects of each will all but certainly be altered, but there is no evidence that I'm aware of to suggest that concomitant use of opioids and psilocybe will yield an actual diminished psychedelic effect, though you will most likely feel more "mellow" if you choose to combine them.

A very likely outcome might be that you end up wanting/needing a larger dose of mushrooms than you would otherwise in the interest of achieving the desired effects. This has essentially been my experience.
 
I agree that I can't see anything specifically dangerous chemically about it. Especially since it is regular dose and not getting high on opioids before dosing mushrooms.

I'm going to send this over to PD as I think you will get better answers about how opioids effect your trip over there.

I think it depends on what type of opiates, I took 180mg of codeine at the peak and it added a very laid back feel to the trip. Supposedly xanax and shrooms are interesting.
 
^ never tried opiates on top of psychs but any benzo and especially xanax, really diminish the effects of psychedelics
 
Xanax is not an opiate or even an analgesic (pain killer) for that matter ;) It's a sedative (anxiolytic / hypnotic / amnestic) of the benzodiazepine class. I know you didn't say it was an opiate but just for the record.

I could count the times I tried analgesics with psychedelics on one hand but other than agreeing with the 'mellow' part it's not a definite reduction in tripping effects that is caused for me. Opiates blunt your experience in general though, so there might be less ups and downs and depending on how strong the opiate is a reduction in interest or attention overall. Something like 'no pain no gain': being left vulnerable increases your chances of being surprised in very positive and very negative ways.

For those having gotten reduced effects when taken with mushrooms remember that you need a good number of experiences to say this because mushrooms are natural products and can contain very different levels of alkaloids. So it can easily be true that those particular mushrooms were weaker even if they were of the same batch as relatively strong ones.
 
Thanks for all of the responses. I am gunna take 4 grams. Think to counter balance the opies.I will have a 100mcg/hr fentanyl patch on the entire time and will probably iv about 40mgs of dilaudid about an hour beofre I ingest the boomers. Any way to make sure the effects of the shrooms aren't deminished? Not taking opiates is not plausible.
 
Just take the dose you would normally take. Trying to counterbalance or compensate the mushrooms on an uncertain premise is not a very smart idea. If they turn out to be potent specimens you will be balls deep in that trip. Only take 4g if you are okay with taking 4g without any combinations.

Are you mushroom-naieve? i.e. have you ever taken them before?
4g is a heavy dose to start with, 2g is more realistic.
 
I have taken shrooms 30+ times and usually take an 8th. You make a good point though I have never taken them while on opiates. Maybe ill start with 2 and take the other 2 as needed.
