Quick question about Naltrexone and Opiates safety

I'm on naltrexone 50mg a day to curb my opiate use. I havnt taken it for 2 days and have been taking opiates today, what i'm wondering is, because naltrexone is still blocking the receptors and i'm ntot getting as good effects as usual i've been taking more than usual,
but does the naltrexone reduce the respiratory depression from opiates as well as the euphoric effects?
Since i'm on benzos daily and wouldnt mind a drink, but dont wanna not wake up, this is just a lapse i'm gonna get back on the naltrex daily after the opis have cleared my system. Hope that makes sense ima bit fucked

It does.. but even so, as you've been taking naltrexone and not using opioid agonists, your tolerance will be lowered now and mixing opiates with benzos and alcohol could be fatal regardless. The blockade will wear off soon and you will be left with a lowered tolerance and no protective blockade reducing the risk of respiratory depression, and it makes me nervous that you are having to use more than normal at the moment.. all those things combined means you could easily end up overdosing. Tread very carefully!

Good luck with your naltrexone and be safe :)

Cheers :), Wasnt really much more than normal, just went through a some odmt faster than usual then ended up decided against going to get some h or necking the dhcs i've got lying around which wouldv been the extra. Laid off the booze n only took a small amount of diaz, still cant sleep now though and didnt get much of an effect from the opi as i would've liked which i suppose is good in a way.

Another question if you can help me is will the naltrexone effect the amount of time the odmt is in my system? When i first started it a few months ago i'd waited 3 days after taking some odmt then took the naltrexone and was fine, but after a multi opi/benzobinge a few weeks ago id forgotton id taken opiates, took the naltrex next morning and went through a very rough acute withdrawal, dont really want to go through that again so would the naltrexone possibly make the odmt stay in my system any longer? Thanks for the help :)

I don't see how it could, logically thinking, but is 7am and brain not working fully so I might get back to you on that when I've had some sleep, hah..

Glad you're being careful.. and yeah, maybe it is a good thing, will make it easier to resist temptation in the future :)

Naloxone and naltrexone are different drugs - naltrexone has a much longer half life than naloxone, not sure if you're getting those confused effie :)

Like effie said though, when it's affecting you it will prevent the effects of opiate agonists (including respiratory depression), but I just have to reiterate how careful you need to be once it's no longer affecting you, because as well as the break off opies reducing your tolerance, naltrexone works directly to upregulate opioid receptors and lower your tolerance, so you're getting a double whammy.

There's no point having a drink whilst on naltrexone though as naltrexone blocks the pleasurable effects of alcohol - hence why it's prescribed to alcoholics (like me!).

...What is odmt?

odmt = O-desmethyltramadol, RC opi which i'm pretty fond of haha. Naltrexone does a damn good job of making opiates pretty useless for me for 3/4 days after iv taken it, doesnt really effect my drinking though except maybe makes me space my drinks out a bit further subconciously, but alcohols always been an afterthought for me. Aye im gonna get back on it daily on thurs when im sure my system will be clear enough, just one of those days where i needed some escapism badly! Cheers for the reples

No I wasn't :) if he's been off the naltrexone for a few days, it's going to be out of his system at some point and the blockade will stop. Naloxone's half life is about an hour so it would already be long-gone, and it's used in emergencies, not for maintenance - due to it's fast onset and short half life. I know the difference :)

And neither would affect the time an opioid is in your system.

I always call it ODT. Hard to know what to call these new RCs.. it's the metabolite of tramadol that is responsible for (at least most of) tramadol's opioid effects.

No worries, I was just confused because you said 'good luck with your naloxone'.

Anyway, odmt, ODT - I've never heard of this! Going to have to do some research...

Another question, are there any opiates that bind to the receptors better than naltrexone (/me trying to sound liek i understand what agwarn in my body with the chems) so that i could get instant effects from the opis when needed, even after taking the naltrexone. And would the IV route or anthign have any impact on this?

Buprenorphine has a stronger receptor affinity than naltrexone.. ROA will have no impact.

So I guess you could try to get high on subs.. but I feel that is likely to mess up your naltrexone programme hugely..
