Quick Oxy question

I've taken 1 30mg Oxycontin with 2 10/325mg Percocet...considering the time release factor...how different would 2 30mg Oxycontin be? I understand that Oxycontin, being time released, would release half the dose soon after ingestion and the other half about 4 hours later. So if I was to take 2 30mg Oxycontin - this would give me basically 30mg fairly quickly and 30mg later...which isnt all that different from 1 30mg Oxycontin and 2 10mg Percocet (roughly 35mg "instant"). Do I understand correctly?

i don't know if releasing half instantly and half 4 hours later is perfectly correct (i know that's how addy xr works and maybe you know that is how OC works), but i would very much imagine that the practical aspects of your thinking are correct.
 
More or less. The problem with extended-release formulations of drugs (OxyContin included) is that its hard to predict how much of the drug will be released and exactly when. There are many factors to consider, including stomach contents and pH, metabolism of the drugs, and many other things that are hard to predict. IIRC, you're using the Percocet and OxyContin for pain management, right? You'll just need to figure out which combination works best for you.

OxyContin, being a longer-acting (extended-release) formulation of oxycodone, is better for day-long pain management. Percocet is good for "breakthrough pain". They both have advantages and disadvantages.
 
Hey - yes I am using it for pain management. I'm trying to find the best way to take it. I am prescribed both (perc and oxycontin) but I cant fill my percocet until next week. so for a few days I only have oxycontin. Its not a real big deal...I'm just lacking the breakthrough medication for a few days.

My first experience with these OP 30s. With Percocet I would take 3 of the 10mg ones...which gave me 30mg instantly. So in theory, I was thinking that 2 30mg Oxycontin would be similiar to this. I've read a lot on here about the "new" OP oxycontin's. When taking them Orally - this really doesnt apply much does it? There really isnt a hastle-free quick way of making these instant release is there?

Once I'm able to re-fill my prescription early next week then I'll be fine - I have a more than adequate supply to get me through each day. Just kinda testing things for a few days. Overall, I like the Oxycontin - it seems to help me. But until today I still had the break-through percocet (which the combo of the two is fantastic! works great in controlling my pain). Sometimes, I need that instant relief when my pain spikes (the breathrough pain) so thats the reason for my question - if taking 2 OP30's will provide that kick in addition to the long lasting relief.
 
your theory is not far off. and yea, there is no hassle free way to make them instant. chopping it into little piece with a razor will definitely make it release much more quickly though. and if you leave those little pieces overnight in a empty soda bottle with a little bit of lime juice at the bottom, then shake some soda in there and drink, it's damn close to instant release. that does not qualify as hassle free in my book though.
 
No - not in my book either. Especially since I'm using them for breathrough pain and I'd kind of have to "plan" to do that. I suppose I could try that overnight so I'd have a "breathrough" med to use in the morning. Might give it a try just to see - since I only have to deal with this for a few days and I have an ample supply. I'm sure I can get through the next 5 days with it. Might experiment a little bit. For the most part - it controls my pain quite well and I can feel when it kicks in and it is long lasting. I figured it was safe to try taking 2 - since my tolerance allows me to handle 1 + 2 10mg percocet. thanks for your help and replies!
 
When you say leave the little pieces overnight in a can with a little lime juice (or Im assuming anything acidic)...does it have to be a full "overnight" soaking. Or would just 3 or 4 hours soaking be sufficient?
 
i don't know. never done it for less than 10. but if you cut it into really small pieces, maybe 10 hours would not be necessary. in regard to what what you use, lime juice is very acidic. i've heard of people using soda and orange juice and all these other things, but if you go online and compare at the normal ph in a stomach with the ph of different common liquids, you will see lime juice is the way to go. lemon was a close second. and i used to try orange juice overnight to make my crushed addy beads completely IR. once as a little test to see how much like my stomach a bottle of orange juice was, i also dropped the empty capsule in--expecting it to be completely gone the next morning. far from.

the little pieces are gonna turn into gel and then slime. so when you are ready to drink, something carbonated like coke that you can pour in and shake up (so no slime is left on the sides) is useful. plus that will taste better than pure lime juice with an OP dissolved in it.

Alright cool i'll use some lime juice then - I might give this a try tonight and see what happens tomorrow. The assumption here is a 30mg Oxycontin (OP30) would be equal to 30mg of instant release oxycodone? that'd be perfect for me - thats the dose that works best for me. Although - I did take the 2OP30s...about 3 hours ago and its working fairly good. Doesnt have the same "kick in" as 30mg of percocet...but its similiar and 3 hours later its still very effective (just as much as it was when it first started kicking in). Maybe for me - just taking 2 orally whole will work just fine (when I need that added boost for breakthrough...until I get my percocet refilled). I even have a decent level of europhia going on with it. If this lasts for several more hours - this could be perfect.

Taste doesnt matter to me - my wife has always said if it wasnt for the heights thing, I could make a fortune on Fear Factor lol I have an iron stomach. But I'll add coke if that'll help it to work better.

Just take one of your OPs and put it in a shot glass with lemon juice. Or even crush it with a ped egg for your feet... grind it down to powder and put it in the lemon juice or something acidic and it will release all the oxycodone.. then dose it how you want. It will make it IR thus allowing it to help you with BT pain.

Another thing you might want to look into for pain management is Opana. I dodged the OxyContin bullet because I knew of the reformulation, and alot of people are having problems getting adequate pain relief from the new OC's. Opana has been a godsend for me because it works great for pain and I have roxi's for BT pain. I find Opana to be superior to the fentanyl patch in terms of analgesia and if you take it orally you won't have any kind of high whatsoever.. Just pain relief.

You should also talk to your dr about scripting you the roxi 10's instead of the percs to give your liver a break, then ibuprofen 800 3 times a day helps alot too. Most pain mgt dr's wont script percs because they want to preserve your liver. I would definatly bring it up.

Oh and it doesn't taste that bad.. lol I always found xanax to taste more like shit than oxycodone and lemon juice.. you can add sugar to make it sweet think of it like you're taking a shot of liquor.. hahaha
