Quick OTC CWE question

I'm doing two CWEs this evening, one using 32 cocodamol tablets (500mg paracetamol, 8mg codeine) and the other with 32 Nurofen + tablets (200mg ibuprofen, 12.8mg codeine). I've just filtered both solutions thoroughly and I'm a bit puzzled by what's left in my filters. The cocodamol junk is literally about half the size of the Nurofen junk, despite containing 508mg of active ingredients vs 212 in the Nurofen. Even taking inactive ingredients into account, surely this should be the other way round? Both mixtures have been squeezed through a shirt to get as much water out as possible (before being finished with a coffee filter).

The coco filtrate is almost clear (slightly cloudy, nothing suspended within) so it should be fine, right?

Can I suggest something. Filter through a T Shirt.

I know sounds like really crap advise. But I find I get a much clearer solution and its much quicker.

Just make sure you wet the t shirt so it does absorb the liquid.

But yes a little bit of cloudiness should be ok. You could filter again through a t shirt.

I know a T Shirt sounds utter tosh........... but I couldnt quite believe how much more effective it is.

I use a pair of shorts. They're the tightest weave imaginable and filter 95% of the shit out straight away. I then pour the solution through a coffee filter to get the last bit of gunk out. Gives me a mostly clear solution with cocos and milk with Nurofen (due to the titanium dioxide apparently).

I'm just wondering why the Nurofen gunk is significantly more substantial than the coco gunk, despite the cocos apparently weighing more.

I do. The fact that I'm buggering about with a cwe would suggest I've run out.

Anyone know what's going on with the different amounts of gunk?

How soluble is ibuprofen compared with paracetamol? I've never done a CWE with Nurofen Plus; I stopped buying them when they became un-splittable. Until then they were my primary OTC codeine source.

Maybe the Nurofen gunk just appears more substantial because the ibuprofen has gelled up or something? I'm going in blind here, sorry. :)

I think you're right Sam. It looks as though the Nurofen binders swell up when they come into contact with water. It just looked a bit odd, that's all.
