I have a 4oz bottle of robitussin and it is the multisymptom version. I.e every 5ml there's 10mg Dxm, 100mg guafinisen(nasty) and 5mg phenylephrine hcl. What I'm concerned about is that I'm on 5-htp 100mg a day but conveniently I haven't taken any since my morning dose yesterday(50mg). I know it has an interaction with this and I'm not sure if I should take the Dxm. Also the phenylephrine hcl also concerns me as I do not know what it will do at a higher dose(it's a nasal decongestant) . I don't want a strong trip I just want a little buzz for the night and the 4oz bottle isn't even full. There's close to a 1/3 missing.

I've taken Dxm 3 times before in gelcap form. 300mg and 600mg twice.

I would just like to know if it will not be a good idea since I've been on 5-htp since Oct 31st. But I haven't taken since yesterday morning as I already stated. And the nasal decongestant at a high dose.

Plz answer quick as I'm eager to administrate that bottle lol. I'll also have a lil drink of gin to enhance after the guafinisen's nausea passes(hopefully I wouldn't get at that lower dose) just gimme the ok on this.

Seizures aren't what you need to worry about with phenylephrine. It is a stimulant that can bind to alpha adrenal receptors and cause a deadly spike in heart rate and blood pressure.

Avoid that combo at all costs. DXM already causes tachycardia in most users.

Agreed, seems like a no no unless you like panicky tensed up feelings. Valium would counter part of such phenylephrine effects (which are sympathomimetic i.e. working on excitatory systems of the body) because valium is a downer and generally inhibitory (the opposite called parasympathomimetic), but this is true only generally and it works on another system of chemical balances. In short: the counteraction is indirect and therefore has its limits. It is not reliable and it could synergize with the DXM to make you doze off while not necessarily fixing the bad effects on your heart and blood vessels.
Passing out or being very groggy, drowsy and/or dizzy would be potentially dangerous if the guaifenesin makes you nauseous since you could choke on your vomit. Also benzo's are probably not the best idea if you want to be aware of dissociative effects and remember them later.

Invest your energy in finding DXM-only products. Check the active ingredients list each time you find a preparation and keep searching until you find one that only lists DXM (dextromethorphan hcl or hbr) as the active ingredient. You may need to visit more than one pharmacy to find it and maybe you will need to consider various forms such as syrup, gels, caps and pills. Cross check brand names with ones mentioned on the internet.

Alcohol is not a good idea even with pure DXM, it can increase dizziness, forgetfulness and nausea. A little cannabis after the peak/plateau would be much much better.

I'd wait a few days - like 2 or 3 - in between taking 5-HTP and DXM. Preloading with 5-HTP before any serotonin releaser or SRI is not as responsible or smart as you may have read.
