Questions on 5-HTP

I tried 5-htp after my last roll. I don't get comedowns but I thought I'd try it out of curiosity. I went rollin' Saturday @ Laurent Garnier (1 pink diamond pill) then I took 100mg on the Sunday, 100mg Monday and 100mg Tuesday. I felt in a good mood throughout, better than normal and everytime I put the music on I was banging again and right into it. Extends your buzz in my opinion!

Man, you took 300mg + 1 pink diamond pill in 4 days??
that´s no healthy try to space your rolls between 60 and 90 days
MDMA is not like candys you know? you can not take it everyday without consecuences

its not good to take it regularly either your brain gets used to the excess serotonin and then when you actually need to use it you will have to up the dosage significantly, its almost addictive but not in a sense. when you stop taking it you'll feel down but not as down as you'd feel after MDMA use

MDMA actually reduces the enzyme that converts tryptophan into 5-htp, which is why taking 5-htp is better than tryotophan.

I still think that Tryptophan is the better option, especially seeing as you find it in common foods, such as bananas, dark chocolate, and milk/dairy products.

As I understand it the brain only converts the 5HTP it needs. The excess the body gets rid of.

Never heard it was addictive in any way.

Do we have any sources that suggests it reduces the enzyme that converts tryptophan into 5HTP?

I agree with Sam here yes there is a lot of tryptophan in food but also it seems there is some (not as much) 5HTP in food.

Also if the body only uses the 5HTP it needs is there any risk in an excess of 5HTP?

What I meant was 1 ecstasy pill and 300mg of 5-htp over 3 days. I am proud to say I am at day 36 since my last ecstasy dose, and it's looking like I'm doing some at around day 50 or day 60.
 
This is called the serotonin level in the body which is very beneficiary to the body if this taken pre diet,its results are much effective for the body so everybody needs to have the 5 htp stuff,it can be taken in the pills forms.

If you suffer from the usual comedowns then try using 5HTP after the event- it's really cheap so there is nothing lost by trying ?

Just do not use the day before, the same day your going to roll as you increase the risk of Serotonin Syndrome !

^ to answer your question, yes, there is possibly something lost by trying it.

As it seems nobody here has mentioned it yet, I will chime in with the possibility that 5-htp can be toxic to the heart. l-aromatic amino acid decarboxylase converts 5-htp to 5-ht all around the bloodstream before it ever reaches the brain, resulting in as little as 1% actually reaching your dome.

"As I have understood the mechanisms of this toxicity high levels of serotonin will activate, at least hypothetically, cardiac 5-HT2b-receptors which regulate cellular growth in ventricular parts of the heart with weakened muscular tissues and possibly over time heart-attack (or what similar condition actually takes place in bad case scenarios). When adding 5-HTP to the body it pretty quickly gets synthesized to 5-HT in the CNS and the liver, and when taken in large amounts 5-HTP cause large amounts of 5-HT to circulate in the body if there is vitamin B6 and the required decarboxylase enzymes available for the synthesis in the liver which then releases 5-HT into the circulatory system, 5-HTP can cross the BBB but 5-HT cannot."

I'm not an expert, but some googling of your own will be sure to turn up some interesting results.

Stick to lean proteins and spacing your rolls imo, and l-tryptophan if you must supplement.
 
^phew - you go out of your way to say that using 5htp 'could' be toxic to the heart but quite happily state 'stick to lean proteins'. If I was to take a lean protein and deep fry it then its not going to do me much good is it? Everything we take has a risk associated with it (even drinking water in excess can kill you)!

Yes eating 5htp rich foods could be better for you (correctly prepared) but we live in a 'get quick rich' society! We are more likely to drop a few pills of 5htp after raving than eating something like a roasted turkey etc.

Why the hell would you deep fry it? Do you live in the midwest? If so then I understand, I was raised in Oklahoma and they often eat rather unhealthily. Thank you also for reminding us that hyponatremia is indeed still a risk for anyone who may still be under 6 months of age, or an olympic athlete.

Natural protein contains L-tryptophan, not 5-Hydroxy-L-tryptophan and MDMA dramatically lower the level of tryptophan hydroxylase, so basically turkey, eggs, or the content of the big bottle with the label "L-tryptophan" ain't do shit to your 5-HT levels in the brain. The point of using 5-HTP instead of l-tryptophan or natural protein is to skip one step with tryptophan hydroxylase envolved and help our poor brain to restore depleted levels of 5-HT.

P.S. eggs contains four times more tryptophan than turkey. :p
