Questions about Buspar

went to my psych and he told me if i wanted to up my dose of kpins i would have to first try out buspar to see if that would be a better alternative when it comes to managing my anxiety. Any one have any exerpeicen using this? If so what are the pros and cons?
 
They worked for a friend of mines dad and he was a benzo addict, everytime he ran out of xanax early he would have to go to the ER (so I'm told). Finally after he got out of rehab he was put on mirtazapine and buspar. This combo has kept him sober from both alcohol and benzos for almost a year.

He gets no high from them though.
 
Guys, let's keep recreation out of this. The OP is asking how it'll effect his particular mental health.

I'm prescribed 15mg twice a day I think...I never really take it anymore. Mostly because I have found better ways of dealing with my anxiety.

I know buspar is meant to work along with antidepressants. I was taking 40mg of Prozac and 15mg of buspar together for over a year. And I was feeling really great. No depression and very few occurrence of overwhelming anxiety....so I decided to get off the antidepressants because I felt like I could be happy on my own...

However I kept the buspars, they are nothing like Valium and Xanax as far as the fucked up feeling goes, but I'm prescribed adderall 20 mg and that sometimes causes me anxiety and I can't fall asleep at night until real late. The buspar really helps me calm down and center myself during moments of anxiety without feelings of withdrawal.

As far as the getting high off buspar. It happens, but only if you take it as NOT prescribed. I have snorted one of my pills once and yeah I did get high, but it wasn't that great..I felt kinda stupid after for even trying to get high off of it...

Basically. If u need it for anxiety it works, but it won't make u feel "high" just less anxious.

I was given buspar instead of alprazolam bars once and they blew dick..but like the dude above said..that was recreational use. They might work amazing for just anxiety..and jus tnot get you high. I doubt it though.
 
Just started Buspar yesterday. I was taking hydroxyzine for anxiety but all those things do is take away itch and make you wanna sleep for 12 hrs. So, he put me on this stuff. Seems from my research, it works well...extremely well for anxiety if youre not used to benzo's. I can see it sucking if youre wanting benzos and get these. As per moderators wishes, I wont talk about the rec effect, if any. I know that so far for me, they seem to work. I have A LOT of anxiety and benzos never worked for me and I dont like the benzo high (unless Im about to get an MRI.) I really hope they work well. Im on 10mg twice a day to start. He said we can go a lot higher but we will start low cause it could affect my Zoloft. It never ends, haha. I just wanted to say this; I went untreated for years for my mental ilness. I treated it with booze and stuff and that only led to more mental ilness and destryuction. When I decided to get treatment 3 years ago, I knew it would be frustrating at times but it was worth it. I was diagnosed with a very, very serious mental ilness. It toof a couple of meds shuffle but I can say now that my ilness is under control. I feel happy and alive. I can function within society once again and its wonderful!! These medications worked for me but that doesnt mean they work for everyone. Im so blessed I have a good Dr who actually cares. Hes changed my dosage to what Im on now and Im very grateful. I love a good buzz of something from time to time but if anti-whatever meds are taken responsibly at the right dose, they can be super effective. Sorry for that you guys, haha. Back to BusPar. I have faith that itll work. And if it doesnt, Ill try to find something that does. Good luck to all!!
 
My doctor had me try it a few years ago in lieu of xanax, but it did nothing for me. I went back on xanax, then to clonazepam, which works wonders. As was said above, YMMV. If it didn't work for some, it wouldn't still be around. Let us know how it works for you. I'd like to hear a success story about it. Good luck and be safe!
 
BuSpar is not a recreational drug. It has no GABA-ergic activity, and while it can help with anxiety, it does so via serotenergic methods. If you are getting "high" off it, I highly suspect it is placebo. If you have anxiety, and this med is helping, then use it as directed, orally.
