Hello, this is my first post since joining this forum, although I have lurked here for a few years I did not make an account.

I'm looking for anyone who is knowledgeable about the ADHD medication Adderall. I was originally prescribed to it in January, started out at 10 mg twice a day. Through regular doctor visits my dosage currently sits at 30mg once per day. Adderall has changed my life completely. But I guess I'm just curious about the changes I'm beginning to notice. Before, I used to be motivated by it to clean the house and I'd have a bunch of energy. Now, I feel weak and sluggish, and although the focus is still there, the motivation to actually get anything productive done has greatly diminished. When this happens, I usually spend my time browsing internet forums, Googling random things, and basically everything not productive. Does this commonly happen to people after taking Adderall for an extended period of time? Also, when I first started taking it, I'd LOVE to organize. Whether it be class notes, DvDs on the shelf, or my closet, I just loved to organize things. I've also realized I don't feel that desire to organize. I understand that the main aspect of this drug is to focus, which it does that. But I think I enjoyed being productive more than being focused, which I guess go hand and hand you'd think, but I focus on stuff that does not matter. Does anybody know why this is? I noticed it originally begin to happen when I was prescribed 40mg Vyvanse (1x a day) earlier this month, but I asked to switch back to Adderall.

Another question I have is if redosing later in the day has differences than taking it the first time that day. Hypothetically, if I took 30mg at 10:30am, then another 30mg at 6:00pm, would there be any noticeable changes in the effectiveness of the drug?

Thanks in advance for any answers, all are welcome!

I'm definitely not the most experienced in amphetamines, but I'll try to answer. Do you think the doctor is giving you too much? May explain the sluggish part. Try asking him about it. I read up a bit, and many people were saying it may just be the wrong dosage for you. Again, I'm not too experienced. Best advice is to ask your doctor.

I know exactly what your talking about and the only way I ever remedied the situation was with a very long break. I too love to organize on Adderall to the point that it becomes OCD like and everything must be exactly perfect to my standards. That is the nature of Adderall for some. It made me want to be productive and do the focus on the things I needed to do rather than wanted to do.

Eventually at some point the drug just turned on me and, like you said, I still had the desire to focus, but it was no longer to focus on important tasks I needed to do, but rather random things such as learning every detail about a chemical or TV show or something random. I'd become an expert on something useless to my everyday life. I also liked to write like nobody's business. Sometimes my name over and over in cursive or sometimes an account of something in my life in great detail. I still feel like this sometime.

I'm sorry if you thought my post would be the answer to your question. I just wanted to say I relate to your experience and its not something that I hear often. The only way to keep some of the drugs magic for me is to spread out use. Sometimes I just like taking my scripted dose as prescribed though.

I have some solid experience with prescribed amphetamines. The physical weakness has probably been brought on by simple lack of nutrients. Even if you feel like you eat properly and stay hydrated, the drug still uses up a lot of that material very quickly. Over time it will accumulate, and it is genuinely hard to keep up.

Also, the dose should not have been raised so soon. You should completely abstain from it for about a month and then go on a lower dosage. After that if you have the self-control to not take your dose everyday, it will keep the tolerance and side effects to a minimum.

Do not take another a 6 pm. You would take it at noon or 3pm at the latest. It would cause you to accumulate sleep debt which you may or may not notice. Regardless, it would gradually take it's toll on you. Try taking 3 days off. If you find yourself crippled with fatigue and sleeping all day on the third day you have hidden sleep debt, which could be causing the sluggishness.

if you take 30mg in the morning, and than redose and take 30mg in the evening, the only thing you will be doing is extending the duration of it's effects as I'm guessing around that time you are coming down or crashing , no boost in euphoria , just an extension of how you you were feeling after you got past the onset and peak, be careful and not dose after that otherwise your wasting pills and just feeding your brain artificial dopamine and serotonin that the adderal depleted in the first place so you can feel normal and avoid crashing and depression . Be safe

My guess is that maybe you aren't getting enough sleep or eating/drinking as much as you need to? I have a lot of experience with many different amphetamines, I was on adderall for 4 years or so. Whenever I take higher than the recommended dose I barely eat anything all day, and it makes it hard to sleep. Perfect example, 6 hours ago I did 60mgs ritalin, now it's 3am and I have to wake up for school tomorrow at 7. Adderall has a longer duration than ritalin too, so I would suggest just taking it in the morning, def none after 12pm if you wanna get a good night's sleep, which is essential to not feeling shitty. Anyways, talk to your doc, find a dose thats right for you and stick to that dose.
