Ok so I was involved in a car accident about 10 months ago where i was rear ended on the expressway. I walked away from the accident in one piece, no broken bones or anything I even refused an ambulance at the scene of the accident. About an hour or so after the accident i started to feel the soreness all over my body and was very stiff in my neck, I felt if I were to turn to face either left or right that I might break my neck. Went to the hospital, x-rays were taken of my neck came back normal was given a couple shots in the ass and wrote a prescription for 10 tylenol 3's and a referal to another doctor.

I have expierience with opiates and was pretty shocked to say the least that the doctor sent me off with that prescription considering how much pain I was in and given the circumstances of my accident. So the next day I went to see the doctor who i was refered to from the hospital. Now in the days following the accident my neck stifness and pain in my neck had shifted to my lower back. The doctor wrote me prescriptions for norco 7.5/325 Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine) 10mg and an anti inflammatory called Mobic (Meloxicam) 15mg. I was suffering from alot of pain in my lower back and alot of muscle spasms which Ive never had before in my life.

I told my doctor that the Norco was working but i had to take more than his prescribed dose to be effective, and that i couldnt notice any relief of muscle tightness so he prescribed me Norco 10/325 and switched the 10mg Flexeril to 350mg of Soma. With the meds i was able to go to work and perform normally. I was taking the norco and other meds for almost 2 months when i was incarcerated for about 3 months where I was not given any of my meds. So when i came home i went and saw the same doctor and was still having the same pain and muscle spasms and tightness and he wrote me a prescription for 240 50mg Tramadol. 4 days later i was back in his office telling him that the tramadol wasnt helping at all, so he got upset with me and started writing on his prescription pad and handed me a script for 60 7.5/325 norco and refered me to a specialist and told me that he couldnt write me any more prescriptions.

So I went to this orthapedic specialist about a week ago explained my issues and showed him the meds i was getting previously, i took some xrays at that same visit and just had an MRI today, I wont know the results of that for about another week. The doctor wrote me prescriptions for 65 Norco 5/325 60 Flexeril 5mgs and the 15mg Mobic. I know i have been ranting but i felt the backround story was neccesary so anyone reading this can understand my situation. My question is how do i approach my doctor about raising the dosage of pain killer and muscle relaxant without getting shut down or looked at like I am a drug addict seeking drugs. I have legit pain and this new doctor seems really nice and his staff are very friendly, the office is close to where i live and i am able to do my physical therapy in the same building so i dont want to switch doctors.

I know he might have started me on this low dose to see how i react and that until the MRI results are in his face he doesnt know how to go about treating me yet. But im almost out of norco and ill be suffering through almost a whole week until my next visit with him and i would just like some advice on how to approach the issue without getting sent home with nothing....any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!! And yes obviously im going to tell him the truth and the severity of my symptoms but i did that the last visit and it didnt get me very far.

Well, just tell him the truth of your pain & the MRI will definitely show more than an Xray.......if your MRI doesn't show anything, good luck getting anything stronger even tho you may have severe legitimate pain.

IMO/IME, its very rare for a doctor to up your meds after seeing them just one time.

I had to see my doctor 6 months before I was put on 10/325 norcos & somas......

I don't want to get into your business with why you went to jail but your previous doctor might have seen this & thought drug seeker......not that you are a drug seeker but you get where this doctor might have been thinking.

Also, this thread may be closed because you're asking how to obtain narcotics from a doctor which is a no no.........

Yeah Im hoping the MRI shows something, Im just concerned because he gave me those 5/325 norcos and when i go to this next visit ill have been out of them for a few days probably and im afraid that if i tell him ive been taking 10mgs in the morning and 10mgs at night, when his recommended dose was 5mg every 8-12 hours that he might cut me off completley. Im young and i just wanna be able to go through a day without my back pain driving me nutss, it seems like everyday thats the only thing on my mind is my back and how it feels.

At this point, you will need to take the meds he's giving you until your next appointment. Let him go over your MRI's and you can talk about whether the meds need to be tweaked. One suggestion I can give you for now, take some ibuprofen along with the norcos. That is if you can take nsaid type drugs, start at 200 mg and see if you get any relief. It really seemed to help my hydros last longer. We can't give you advice as to what to say to the doctor but hang in there.

Ok I will definatly try that!! Thanks alot for the input!! Also apoligies about asking what to say to the doctor Im new to the site!
