While watching television over the holidays, I noticed more and more advertisements speaking out against drug use appearing than what was in the usual rotation. These commercials seemed as if they were produced with a significantly higher budget than most of the old ads, and the following question was raised in my mind:
"How much money does the anti-drug lobby contribute to political candidates every year, to whom do they donate it, and how does it compare to the amount that other similar or partially analogous groups (such as both pro- and anti- smoking groups)?

Any sourced information would be great, as I plan on using this as the topic of a research paper, but any discussion, comments, or insight is highly appreciated :)

Thanks,

Good point, Dexter. I hadn't even thought about how hard it makes it to see which groups and people are keeping the Drug War- an asinine name for any such program- going.

Also, I think it would be interesting to know what other industries/lobbies have donated to candidates that are linked strongly to drug policies, at both federal and state levels.

Just food for thought, really :)

It would rip the state of things apart imo. Much akin to when Jack Abramoff wouldn't go down alone.

This thread is probably going to get moved, since it's not an article.
